People need to recognize that OM -> LSU is the same step-up as UNT -> OKS. Once they do that LK will be celebrated.

I think it’s less about “hating” LSU and more about being fine with Lane going to the “right” school.

Its only wrong when a high-profile school or coach is involved. Otherwise, the media can't get enough traction when they run with a narrative.

overall, it'd be the exact same story if it were another school. It's the feeling bad for the "underdog" thing. Same reason why when you tune in on a random game on TV and it's close you're most likely to just root for the little guy.

He is not making a lateral move. He is taking the next step in his career and is coaching until the end of UNT season.

It's tough to blame Morris (and Sumrall) being what they would potentially make taking these P4 jobs. However, it shows how fricked up the current system is.

Teams should not have to worry about going into the CFP without the head coach who got them there, yet here we are.

How much in financial commitments has Lane obtained from Ole Miss to support his team vs how much has Morris has obtained from UNT? What are UNT’s chances of winning a championship vs Ole Miss’?

This. It’s a fun comparison to make if you take common sense out of the equation.

Fair point, but I will say this: How much in financial commitments has Lane obtained from Ole Miss to support his team vs how much has Morris has obtained from UNT? What are UNT’s chances of winning a championship vs Ole Miss’?

Bro….could your argument be any more subjective and anecdotal?

I hope you don’t work for a living

Until they fix the calendar

This needs to happen.

With the push to expand the playoffs to 14 or 16, they need to do away with conference championship games. Both participants from SEC and B1G will be in the playoff every year regardless of who wins the CCG and the "reward" for being one of the 2 best teams in the conference regular season is to play an extra game and risk injuries while the 3rd place team in the conference is still going to the playoffs but gets to rest their players and heal up before their 1st round game.

Let the regular season end on Thanksgiving weekend. Then have the 1st round of the playoffs 2 weeks later on campus. 2nd round games Christmas Eve / Day. Semi-finals can be the weekend after New Years. Put the transfer portal opening and early signing day both being sometime after Christmas. That way there's only 4 teams still alive in the playoffs by that point, so it doesn't affect as many teams with players entering the portal during the playoffs or coaching carousels.

in general, it's the same...the media doesn't care that Ole Miss and LSU are rivals. They only care that Lane may not finish the season at OIe Miss...but that is not Lane's fault.

Obviously, Morris, UNT and OSU have worked it out...can Lane, LSU and Ole Miss do the same?

Kinda but not really. One is leaving a team the might be in the playoff and if they do, have zero expectations of winning it. The other is leaving a team that is definitely in the playoff and has expectations to win in it.

Probably not, for the reasons listed above.

Its honestly good news if Kiffin leaves for LSU.

He is not the only one. Easy to spin. Harder for national media to crucify him.

Ole Miss is not definitely in. Plus this whole scenario is based on assumptions.

Yeah we went through that when Fritz left, Sumrall had to come in and fire pretty much everyone because they were trying to get players to go to Houston. It’s going to hurt North Texas unless they can promote/hire someone real quick.
