It was also pretty funny that Orgeron leaked that information to the media only to look like an idiot a little later.

Have we figured out a way to blame Saban for this yet?

let’s just roll the dice with the Schumman cat from UGA and be done with this.

I could be down with this - great recruiter and LB coach.

High risk, high reward I guess.

Not yet. We are still blaming the Saints for hanging on to a good coach. We will probably stay pissed at them until pre-season next year then flip it over to Saban somehow. We have time to figure it out.

Ed's capable of looking like an idiot all on his own. The leaks come from one place:

knowing whether or not the guy you are in negotiations with is actually available seems pretty basic.

I think both parties knew Nielsen's situation but chose to operate under the assumption the Saints would just let him walk

more the his agent went into negotations with LSU thinking that it was not a big deal or that he could walk.

Either way, LSU lost and Neilsen got a raise.

sean payton wouldn't release me so now I'm going to sign a 3 year extension and be his Asst HC. That adds up

They likely would have let Nielsen walk albeit with some type of buy out. Instead they made their counter offer and he decided where he wanted to be.

I think he made the right choice. Much more stable environment over there to be honest.

#LSU & Ryan Nielsen had verbally struck a deal, sources tell
@SINow
, but..

Citing language in his contract, Sean Payton declined to release him (this isn't the 1st time). LSU & Nielsen attorneys objected.

In the end, as
@MikeTriplett
reports, Nielsen gets a new deal with Saints

I believe this is what happened. Either way, the Saints come away looking bad, also. Only Louisiana could have both teams come out looking badly.

Again, he or LSU could have paid the buyout or remainder of the contract for breaching it. You can't be forced to work under a contract if you pay the penalty to break said contract.

This is nothing but LSU saving face because O is looking more and more like the buffoon he is.

The people spouting the "he wasn't going to be released" garbage are mouth pieces for O and LSU.

It sounds more like Saints wanted to see what they were going to have to do to keep him and did so.

And then he chose to stay with the Saints

This isn’t hard. If Neilsen wanted to be at LSU right now he would be, and then the Saints would have the option to go after LSU for whatever the penalty is in his contract

This is all Nielsen’s fault...obviously both teams are going to try to get him...but once he commmitted to LSU u have to stick to it
