I can't imagine Lanning's agent would allow a contract to be signed to hurt Lanning's chances at Alabama or Georgia (If those were his dream jobs, like 80% of college football coaches). That agent wouldn't be doing his job at all.

I agree with you. The coaches and agents have advantages in these negotiations. If Lanning or Dabo want Alabama, they would make sure their contract wasn't the reason it didn't happen.

Bruce Feldman said on Rusillo that Lanning's buyout is actually much more than $20 million. I don't think Lanning would have agreed to a huge buyout like this if he had any intention to leave. He had to know a job like Bama would have come open in the next few years.

Bama would pay it without batting an eye...IF that is the guy they want.

Personally, I don't think Lanning is ready for a job like Bama at this point. He may end up being tGOAT coach in the future. But the difference between being the head coach at Oregon vs Bama is light years apart. He hasn't really proven anything at this point in his career and moving to Bama only makes the competition that much tougher. He could repeat the year he had at Oregon this year at 12-2 for 3-4 years and be completely comfortable at Oregon. If he moved to Bama and went 12-2 two years in a row, they'd be calling for his head.

Bama fans, especially the younger ones, are in for a real eye opening experience over the next 5 years. Saban spoiled these people.
