Minor Leaguer Breaks Up No-Hitter In Ninth Inning With A Bunt, Then Benches Clear
© Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

This Double -A minor leaguer pulled a pretty jerk move when he laid done a bunt during the opposing team's no-hitter. Per The Spun...
quote:

Tuesday night, a game at the Double-A level reignited the debate again. The Hartford Yard Goats, leading 3-0 against the Trenton Thunder, had a no-hitter going between three pitchers and one out in the ninth inning.

Thunder batter Matt Lipka decided to try a bunt and laid it down perfectly. He posted the first hit of the game for his team.

Predictably, the Yard Goats were not thrilled with his decision. The benches cleared, but it doesn’t look like anyone threw any haymakers.

Gotta earn it as far as I'm concerned.

Probably the nicest drag bunt I've ever seen.

I am sorry but if you cannot hit this guy, what is wrong with bunting? He has to earn the No-Hitter, not just hope the other teams gives it to him once he reaches the 9th inning.

A bunt is an official hit in baseball. If you cannot get a hit against a pitcher the conventional way, then do what you have to do. If you can't even get a bunt for a hit, then get walked or get hit with the pitch. You don't play for the team no-hitting you, you play for your team....

Only dick move was running way inside the first base line to draw getting hit by the ball on the throw to first...

Only if by doing it, he impeded their attempt to throw him out, but the pitcher had a straight line to the 1st baseman, but was too slow to get to the ball, and his scoop-toss wasn't going to get it done. So it was moot....

That was first thing I noticed - I thought the rules say that you have to stay on the foul side of the line within two feet on any play where the ball is behind you. I learned this by being called out for exactly the same thing back in my youth.

Unwritten baseball rules are gay. And their fights are gayer.

No issue with the bunt. It was a single just like any other single

It's not the batters job to put himself out, that's on the pitcher and the defense. That's true regardless of the situation.

Score was 3-0..... They needed base runners. Play better defense.

I don’t understand this “unwritten rule” not to bunt to break up a no-hitter. You do what you have to do to get baserunners on and win the game.

Its the only “unwritten rule” that I disagree with.

how is that a jerk move? His goal stepping up to the plate was to get a hit.

It was a multi-pitcher no hitter... not the same as if it was one pitcher, who cares

That doesn't really change anything, but it changes everything!

Huh? A bunt is a hit. Why wouldn't he take what the defense was giving him?

frick that. The opposing team is paid to win, not lay down because you have a no hitter with 1 out in the 9th. You have to earn it. This is exactly what is wrong with the SJW everyone needs a trophy mentality in this country.

The worst part about these titty babies crying is that the no hitter was between three pitchers! It's not like one guy had been out there grinding the whole game and the bunt happened.

Which makes it all the more silly that this pitcher was the one so mad about it. Bunt to get on - steal 2nd - hope the walk the next batter to set up dp - hope for a HR to tie the game - go on to win. THAT would have been my mental process up to bat in that situation.
