Iceland broke me

In early September, the wife and I went on a 10 day trip to Iceland. We rented a campervan and did the Golden Circle, Ring Road, and Snaefellsnous Peninsula. While planning the trip, I kept reading about not trying to do too much in the time we had so as to be able to fully take and appreciate the things we were able to see. All the sites kept saying to see the things we miss on return visits. Wife and I kept telling each other that this would likely be our only visit to Iceland because there were so many other places we also want to visit. Only so much money and time.
Over the last few days we have been trying to decide what we want to do next year and things that had looked so enticing to us before now not so much. Not sure I can put my finger on exactly what it was about Iceland but it hit me in a way no other place I’ve been. Wife says the same thing. And for context, we have been to Yellowstone, Sedona/Red Rock Canyon, Grand Canyon, Denali National Park and Alaskan Cruise, diving/fishing in the Florida Keys, and the Smoky Mountains.
We still want to go to Switzerland, Italy, Ireland/Scottland, Philippines, Exhuma, Bannif and Glacier National Park, and Zion National Park.
And as excited as I was to eventually go to these places, I keep considering doing another Iceland Trip first.
Have any of you ever had a place impact you like this. It’s almost like a spiritual thing. Weird and I can’t quite explain exactly why.

There’s been a couple places like this for me. Mine is Greece. Been through about half of Europe and 95% of the US and nothing has compared to me.

I felt the same way about Iceland and would love to go back mid summer. We went at this time a few years ago and caught a lot of snow on the north end of the island. But there’s still so many other places I haven't been yet either that are on the list

Fieberbrunn, Austria
Wish I was there right now.

The food in Iceland was overall the best that I have ever eaten on a trip, and I have eaten well.
The cleanliness and high trust level were on par with Japan.
I did not like Reykjavik’s politics at all.
The views were incredibly striking but not quite as pretty as Scotland.
The women (natives and guest workers) were mostly gorgeous.
The prices met or exceeded Manhattan
To come back to the Atlanta airport after spending time in Iceland was an extreme culture shock.

Trying to convince mine to do Iceland next year.
Scotland does not disappoint if you drive yourself.

Haven’t been to Iceland but on my list.
There is a quote from Out of Africa when Karen takes her first plane ride over Kenya, ca. 1915. Something like “I got to see the world through God’s eyes. Now I see.”
Driving south through the South Island of New Zealand reminded me of that quote.

No offense, but if this is your list, it’s a big world out there. Iceland is amazing, but you have so much left to see before you go back. You were amazed (as you should be) because it was like nothing you’d ever seen before. There are hundreds of more places like places you have never seen, go to them

Oh, I’m aware. But we were raising two kids that were both heavily involved in several different sports, plus hunting and fishing. Just wasn’t enough combination of available time and finances. Now that we are empty nesters and all the kids are completely off the payroll, we will be hitting our bucket list.

It really feels like a magical place
I would for sure go back 100%. And I rarely find places worth going back to .
Y’all gotta do a safari somewhere in the south part of Africa
That’s a place where I think you’ll get the same feeling

We were there last September. Agree it's amazing. I wouldn't mind going back, but damn it's expensive.
My "must returns" would have to be Norway (been twice) Slovenia (been twice) and Bosnia. I'd spend weeks or months there. Same for Poland (been twice), but actually going back there in late November as part of a larger Baltic Trip.
But, you know, there's so many other places to see in this world, I doubt I ever will return to any of them.

Were there immunizations required for this trip?
Posted on 10/11/26 at 8:42 am to Bow08tie
Yellow Fever vax is the only one required. Malaria pills highly recommended during your stay and for a week after your return.

I have never taken any shots before going to Africa (South Africa and Namibia).

I know the other poster replied, but we did Tanzania (Serengeti, Killamanjaro and Zanzibar) 3 years ago. Amazing trip, Yellow Fever shot is only required for Kenya which is part of the reason we chose Tanzania.
We only got the malaria pills and in mid-June never saw a mosquito.
