Flight noob needing advice

Me and my wife (no pics) very rarely fly. When we do travel, we drive. My wife got invited on a girls trip to Nashville in about a month and the flights out of Nola are $500. Any tips and tricks for finding good prices? Departing Airport is flexible but dates and arrival airports aren’t. We aren’t OT ballers so we’re trying to save some bucks.

Spirit airlines will be your best bet. Everything is expensive these days.

Google Flights or Kayak and track prices, or drive since it isn't that far

Realistically, you’re just stuck. Especially a month out.

I figured that. Told her I’d rather just pay more for convenience of not having to leave at 5am or get back at midnight.
May get her to drive too. Not a bad idea!

You could also check airports that are within 2 hours rent a car and drive if it’s a huge difference.

He’ll be back here in a year or two asking about solo travel.

What dates are you looking at?
I was curious and looked at November 10-13. Looks like Southwest is about $400 and American has a couple flights for about $300. Spirit has one that stops at LAX for $182

These groups have to yell, "Whooooooooo!" every 1/2 block. It's a city ordinance.

If she can drive to Houston that might change things.
Use kayak.com
Use the multi-day ("+/-3 days") tool.
Enter multiple airports in the departure blank - HOU, IAH, BTR, MSY.
Lately everything is expensive and BNA is a tourist place so they know they can get you. I've never found cheap flights there.

Driving from Baton Rouge to Houston for a flight to Nashville doesn't really seem worth it imo
500 for a MSY to Nashville flight is a pretty outrageous though

Yeah, if you look into those, the cheap flights are Spirit flights that take you from Baton Rouge to Nashville...
...via LAX in Los Angeles, a 9 HOUR trip.
And the return flights are all through Orlando or Dallas, and are around the same amount of travel/layover time.
The only direct flights from New Orleans to Nashville are on Southwest, and will run you almost $500.
Looks like the cheapest you can get otherwise is one-stop flights from American that run you just over $300.
Time to drive...

Just drive
I made that trip last weekend and nonstop flights from MSY to BNA were $500. All the BR flights weren't much cheaper and had connections. Not worth it.
I'd rather shell out the $500 than connect and get there only an hour quicker and without a car.
It's 8-9 hour drive from BR unless you stop every hour.

This is a big reason I cannot stand downtown Nashville. What am I there for, what is the attraction? It's like vegas, there's no real reason to be there.
I go 1-2x/year for a conference and despise the late night noises on wednesday nights in my hotel.

One person going id fly. You'll spend over 200 driving.
Two people going id consider driving. Especially if you would need to rent a car there.

The problem is that she wasn't able to look soon enough. Nashville is a popular destination, especially on the weekends. My daughter (no pics) lives there and I've made that flight a lot of times from Houston. Southwest has great rates, but you need to plan ahead and watch for sales. A month isn't enough time for that.

They're missing their pink cowboy hats and there isn't a bride with lace stuck onto her white cowboy hat. That can't possibly be Nashville.
