Fat people flying, there has to be something done.

Took a flight from DFW to MSY on Sunday and the fattest dude ever sat next to, I mean on me. If your arse can’t fit between two arm rests then air travel isn’t for you. He took up half my seat, I couldn’t even turn the pages of my book with my right arm.
frick the airlines for making me suck it up just so some fat guy could fly. I guess it’s up the customer, me, to stand up and say oh hell no…but it was the last leg of our trip and the flight was full. He was the last person on the plane, and clearly autistic…but still, why is it my problem?
There should be a little setup just like the carry on bag size thing…if you can’t back your arse up between these two arm rests…go the frick home and arrange for ground transportation.

I work with a fat guy and he always buys a first class ticket (that's a luxury at his pay grade) and only takes short flights. He's at least aware of the burden he imposes on others.
The unspoken issue here is COST. The more a plane weighs, the more fuel it has to burn getting up and down. The more fuel it burns, the more it cost to operate the airline. Also, the fuel itself adds weight, so carrying more fat people means adding more fuel, which adds more weight, which requires more fuel....
People who are small or skinny, or traveling with only a carryon are subsidizing the cost of the flight for all the fatasses and people checking huge luggage. If the airlines charged by the pound, you would be shocked at the discrepancy in prices.

It would never happen but this is the fairest way to do it.
My wife weighs 100 lbs but if her suitcase is 51 lbs, she is charged.
Yet some 300 lb guy with a 48 lb suitcase doesn't get charged and someone has to deal with sitting next to his fat arse.

airlines should make it mandatory to sit in bigger seats such as first class if your arse cannot fit into the regular seats. make them pay.

Can't say I disagree with you. Flew recently where I got stuck sitting next to a rather large lady who overflowed her seat into mine. Couldn't move my right arm and was crammed up against my left side arm rest the entire flight. It was not pleasant.
I, like most, always pray the fat person I see coming down the aisle doesn't stop at my row and tell me their next to me.

This last flight…giant dude was the last person to get on the plane…and the only seat open was next to me. So there were carry on bins open…one right across and up one from our row, with space for this dude’s bag. Instead, he gets to our row and opens the full bin. He starts moving stuff around and turning bags, everyone is ready to go and this dude needs help from a flight attendant because he’s adamant he’s going to put his bag in this full bin. The handle of his bag is broken, and has one pole sticking out, so it won’t go in. We’re standing in the aisle because he has the window seat…
Seriously, you can’t along better in society than that? I say autistic, maybe he was just dumb AF.

the airlines should put some bigger seats all the way at the back of the plane that can handle fat people and they can all sit next to each other.

This! If we have weight and size limits for baggage ( since we're told those are to do with safety ) we can certainly have a few double seats that are dedicated to large people. Let them board early with others that need more time to get in their seat. They can then be last off of the plane and other passengers will be happy.

as ive gotten older i've tended to be more of a one-issue voter. now that we have medical cannabis, my next issue is fat people. not just on planes, but in society as a whole.
if the cultists would turn their outrage on to the epidemic of obesity in this country i would sign up and march with them

I've seen amusement parks that have seats at the front of the attraction for larger people to test to see if they will fit in the seat and be able to buckle up before making them wait in line. There is no reason why airlines can't have a similar situation, in a more discreet location.

Recently was almost a victim of this, however the enormous fella decided to sit window and I was on the aisle. Flight attendant claimed it was "full to the brim", we had 1 open seat on the entire plane and yep you guessed it, the middle seat in my row lol.. after they closed the door he looked at me to fist bump me and said "we did it".. I laughed and said "no buddy, you did it!" and he chuckled and proceeded to pass out and snore the entire 1,5 hr flight

frick that. I fly enought that I have status that gives me a first class upgrade almost every flight. No fatass gets to take that seat away from me.

The obese are now by far the majority.

Marge: we should use the money on something the whole town could be proud of.
Homer: like a giant billboard that says no fat chicks?
Seriously though I don’t know how it can be resolved other then make them buy extra space or pay by the pound. I will tell you I’ve been around some heavy people talking about this and they are well aware of the annoyance. A few said they will drive pretty far out of their way to avoid flying and someone said they avoid travel altogether. They feel stigmatized as is, but it’s 100# exasperated by flying. I guess not stigmatized enough to lose weight.

A friend of mine is overweight and he flies first class for the seat size alone. He doesn’t complain, he knows he needs it. If you’re overweight, it sucks, but it’s going to cost you more. That’s just how it is (or should be).
Problem is, airlines need to accommodate the overweight people better. And by that, I mean, let them buy 2 seats and actually give them the 2 seats. You hear too many stories of airlines filling in people into empty seats.

Can you imagine people having to weigh in at the check-in? I'd hang around airports just to watch that.

Initially luggage restrictions (amount and weight) was introduced due to a lack of space. As planes grew luggage weight allowances and restrictions has more to do with baggage handlers than aircraft weight.
That being said, it does cost more to transport a 300lb person than it does a 100lb person but they pay the same and I'd be happy to pay a fare based off BMI.

Spirit Airlines would do the world a massive favor if they would remove the middle seat on every MSY to ATL flight.
