re: iOS 26 is just awful - hold off installing as long as possible

To be back on the OP topic, I have been running iOS 26 on an iPhone 13 and iPhone SE (2nd gen) for 3 days now. No weird issues. I never saw heat/indexing issues but I also keep search/indexing and siri/indexing disabled.

I have iOS 26 and enjoying it. Yall are just too nitpicky and scared of what the internet is telling you.

How? I don’t see an option.

We've reached end stage mobile, IMHO. The transition to wearable, "cyborg adjacent" (wetware) will be the next big thing and the big 2 are going to have to adjust, accordingly.
Google/Samsung, to their credit, have sort of accepted incremental improvements and refinements and, while not perfect (I don't like the jarring update that just hit Google phones a few days ago), typically do not disrupt an ordinary user's experience with an update.
Certainly Apple used to follow that philosophy. I think they feel they are in an arms race that inevitably will lose. It happens with a product that has such market share/saturation that they have nowhere to go but down (ETA: See New Coke, back in the day). So, you get things like this that are risky, but with low upside.
At least that's my 2 cents.

So you CAN'T turn it off... you can just fiddle with it. Got it.

I like it?
You can see non-iOS users typing in texts and FINALLY remove non-iOS users from group texts

Did they fix the stupid poster shite where you get a fricking picture of the person calling you that you don’t want or ask for. Don’t understand how they could let someone take over your phone like that.

The fact Apple people care SO MUCH bout this will never not be funny to me

Wont I need to get it for my iPhone 12 before I initiate transfer from 12 to my new 17?
I’ve read it can cause problems doing transfers between phones that have different iOS versions.3

Yes, for sure do it. No sense in risking any problems. Easy peasy to do.

It has resized all of the apps on my cars CarPlay … They’re about half the size they were prior. 26 is dog shite all the way around. If anyone has an easy fix of this, it would be greatly appreciated.

That wasn't even an iOS26 update
People need to start giving Google and the Carriers shite. Google has been slow to update Jibe to the newest RCS features as they roll out and the carriers don't even want to frick with RCS, so they just offload everything to Jibe too. No one wants to say shite about that though.

I swear I’ve read the same thread the last 10 years as the new iOS comes out.

They're still the same size for me. Maybe it reset your accessibility settings or something? It's usually accessibility settings that control the size of fonts, etc.

The lock screen and messages have been the only places I haven’t hated the new look. To add to the below under accessibility settings there is a “Per-App Settings” selection down at the bottom under General which allows you to be more selective for certain accessibility settings including the ones mentioned below. Once in the Per-App Settings menu click on “Add App” and then set what you want that app to be different from default.
You can keep “glass” turned on as the default (main accessibility settings) and the selectively turn it off for specific apps if you want, or you can turn it off for default setting and then then only turn it on for certain apps. Home Screen/App Library is treated as an app in these settings and can be set independently of the default settings.
If under “Control Center” you have added the changing font size Control you can tap and hold it and get a choice to just adjust fonts in current app being used or adjust fonts for all apps (system wide). If you select to change fonts only for the current app it will also be added to the per-app accessibility settings area.

Here's how to turn transparency off or down...
quote:
Open Settings on your iPhone.
Tap Accessibility.
Select Display & Text Size.
Toggle on Reduce Transparency.
settings
This setting adds darker backgrounds to translucent areas like Control Center, app icons, and app folders, so you should see increased contrast between elements throughout the system.
Note that Reduce Transparency doesn't completely eliminate all translucent elements or change button shapes – it simply makes translucent areas more opaque while maintaining the overall iOS 26 aesthetic.
Add Reduce Transparency to Control Center
For quick access to this setting, you can add it to your Accessibility Shortcuts to get to it from the Control Center interface:
Go to Settings ? Accessibility.
Scroll down and tap Accessibility Shortcut.
Select Reduce Transparency in the list.
Additional Contrast Options
If you're still having legibility issues after enabling Reduce Transparency, return to Settings ? Accessibility ? Display & Text Size, then toggle on Increase Contrast. Note that enabling both Reduce Transparency and Increase Contrast will cause icons to lose most of their translucency.
The Liquid Glass design is still in beta, so Apple will likely continue refining the visual effects based on feedback. A wider official rollout of iOS 26 is expected sometime in September.

In fairness it does look dumb- but it’s going alongside other tech trends.
This goofy move away from flat and toward textured and gradient UI is the tech equivalent to women wearing baggy jeans again and proclaiming skinny jeans are out
