That’s a world cup win for an American so what’s our chances of advancing out of group?

I'd put the chances over 80%

If we don't make it out of the group in an expanded tournament on home soil where 32 of the 48 teams now go the knockouts, then just disband the program.

We shouldn't be happy with just being one of the 32 best teams though.

I will freely admit I only get into it during WC time.

And agreed that we should be better than 32. Maybe we can advance in knock out. That would be nice and actually get some momentum

7 points should be the floor in the group stage. 6 is on the table, but if we want to be "serious" then we should at least draw a nation like Turkey. 5 would be a disappointment, 3 is fireable

The Paraguay match feels like it is hugely important. They are a concacafy side when it comes to the dark arts and are good enough to steal a result if we frick around.

I don't know how the next round is structured, but I do know that a lot of groups have two terrible teams, so I would think our group is one that will send 3 to the next round, in which case we'd almost certainly be one of them

Under the old format I think we'd have a legit chance of not making it. If we don't make it under this format, on home soil, it will be extremely pathetic. No way to sugarcoat it.

I think we are a decent team but are underestimating Paraguay and Australia’s potential to bottle us up.

We will have a real tough time breaking them down and my guess is we don’t get more than 4 points from those two. May actually be able to score more against Turkey though their attacking talent could carve us up.

My guess is we get out of the group with 4-5 points. We can win a round of 32 game, but any more than that is tough. It’s an unmitigated success if we play a 6th game this tournament.

If we finish second will be playing in Dallas on July 3rd.

Might be worth a trip for that.

Oh and could potentially play Iran.

I think we get 9 points. Something has changed with this team, mentally. They also historically tend to lock in for big moments and games at the WC and play up.

There is much more a chance of us making it out than not.

It’d be a letdown similar to lsu losing to Troy in 2017 if we don’t make it out.

I also expect us to win a knockout match before having to overachieve in the group of 16.

USA should make the knockouts

But the new format is where their group is a problem. With most 3rd place teams advancing, you'd rather have a top heavy group with a minnow that will finish in 4th. The USA group is very balanced and with some draws it's not hard to be competitive and finish in 4th place while another 3rd place team that wasn't as good will move on for beating up a minnow.

Geez your expectations are way too high if you think 5 points is a disappointment

Absolutely should would be a massive disappointment if we didn't

Hell I think not making the round of 16 would be a disappointment as well. Although I do think our ceiling is the quarterfinals

If we don’t make the knockouts with the third place teams now making it it would be a complete failure. And when hosting the cup that’s fairly damaging to the games growth.

US has a chance to win the group. Second place is most likely.

We should absolutely make the knockouts. Bigger question is do we make the round of 16?

Round of 16 should be the floor, but I wouldn't be surprised if this team gets knocked out in the Round of 32.

Here's what is going to happen:

We win group and face 3rd place Canada. Absolutely demolish them and then annex the entire country.

Iran shockingly wins their group and face 3rd place Saudi Arabia. Iran defeats Saudi and launches a missile attack on same day at Riyadh.

USA vs Iran in Round of 16. Trump detains every Iranian player after the attack on Saudi and USA automatically advances to Quarters.

A familiar opponent awaits in Quarters, die Mannschaft.
We get revenge from 2002 and gut the Germans 4-0.

The semis bring on our oldest foe, England, and, men, Football is not coming home. We route them like we did 250 years ago.

In the Finals, we meet Holland.

You know what happens here. Pulisic hits the game winner in stoppage time and the United States of America brings home our first World Cup.

My body is ready.
