It's reached a point where a lot of games are basically unwatchable. I'm looking at you Argentina/England.

My thought was if the game is stopped for an injury, the downed player must leave the game for three minutes. If a keeper is down, then a defensive player must be subbed out for the three minutes.

The problem is if you don’t go down you don’t get the call. Especially in the penalty box. Not sure how to fix it other than giving out cards.

Going down after contact and "embellishing" the contact to get a call is one thing. We see it every single game in the NBA and NFL. Acting like they just took a bullet from the grassy knoll is another.

Keep booking for simulation and if a player is writhing around on the ground for a set amount of time, say 10-20 seconds, consider them to be actually hurt and the trainers are required to come treat them and get them off the field. Once off the field, they are out for 3 minutes from the second they are outside of the lines. Put a timer on their return just like the NHL has on their power plays. There's not much that would realistically prevent this from happening unless the consequences are much more extreme than they are now. I don't want the use of VAR in-game to get out of control, so if a scenario that isn't reviewable happens and it is clearly shown that a player was not touched and still tried to simulate contact and injury, fine the frick out of them after the fact. I'm talking a big fine like half of their weekly pay. For some players that would be $150k and up.

I hope that what happened last night would be a huge wakeup call to players that want to play like that. Keep on with the fake pain, but don't cry when you get caught. Even if he was "bracing for contact" like Landon said during the game, you don't roll around on the field acting like your shin was snapped in half when you weren't touched. That is the part that was deserving of a 2nd yellow.

There's a ton of embellishing. That's for sure.

However, if you've ever really had studs down your shin or ankle you know you're not just ready to jump right up and go.

Is sending players off for 3 minutes who really are hurt instead of the player that crushed down on their toes or leg really that great? Or do you pause the game to VAR even more stuff with a medical expert determining how badly the foot stomp hurt?

Carding players that go down without contact like last night is about as much as you can do without messing up more stuff.

If some Americans can't watch it, there's always NCIS.

One thing to keep in mind late in the game, its a nice break to lay there for a minute.

Besides the cards for flopping, I’ve felt the refs have done a great job this WC telling players they aren’t calling fouls and letting play continue. If they keep that up then you really only hurt your team, which should phase it out.

I hate it, but it happens in all sports. As much as I’m not into VAR, it can help eliminate it. Red card them? What if it isn’t a true fake/flop? It’s going to be a subjective standard. It, sadly, is just a part of soccer.

Flopping is an epidemic in soccer and has been for decades because the rules and officiating make it overall advantageous.

Stop calling so many fouls for players going down

Most sports getting knocked off your feet or tripping is bad for you and your team and you actively fight not to.

As an England fan the first 25 years of my life were filled with frustration at other teams "gamesmanship" during tournaments, from Ronaldo's wink to South American teams rolling around for 5 minutes.

Nothing ever got done, so if our top players have learnt some tricks I've actually given up and support it. FIFA, UEFA and the referees have never shown any real want to sort it out so if Kane wants to buy a free kick I'm fine with it.

I think it's a pretty simple fix. The player's respond to the referees. If the refs start calling fouls that are clear fouls when a player doesn't flop, then the flopping will slow down tremendously.

I won't say you see it all the time, but there instances where you see a guy fight through a foul only to eventually lose the ball because of that foul moments later. If he doesn't fall, the ref doesn't call the foul. It's a refereeing issue. They have to start playing advantage when a guy gets fouled and stays on his feet. The refs have basically told the players through their own actions that if you don't hit the turf you aren't getting a whistle at all

Must be sitting up within 10 seconds or trainers get called out. Once trainers arrive, if you aren’t actively being stretched and still haven’t sat up 30 seconds beyond then, you must come out for 10 minutes.

Make it a severe detriment to your team and it’ll stop.

Why would club owners ever support a rule like this?

Forcing a superstar they've invested 300 million dollars in to jump right up with some knee pain after a hard foul to avoid his team going down a man?

It's like you guys don't realize these World Cup teams are filled with professional players that are worth 100s of millions of dollars to their actual professional teams. Those are their real jobs.

How much do you think NBA/MLB owners would get behind international basketball/baseball rule changes that put their superstar players at more injury risk?

I'm just a fan with no money invested and my favorite World Cup result is no AS Roma players get injured.

Make a rule that states any player who loses his footing and is on the ground for X amount of seconds must be temporarily substituted until a trainer/physio spends at least 5 minutes to do an evaluation.

I was very happy to see the penalty for England against Norway called back.

One of my biggest annoyances beyond the flopping is players who just get their leg in front. Not making a legitimate play on the ball, just making sure their leg is in front so it can draw a foul.

Exactly.

Every one of these rule suggestions are just missing very basic points:

1. Like: the main thing power brokers (owners of the clubs etc) want to do is protect their players from serious injuries. Any rule that would urge a player to not have trainers look at a real potential injury is absolutely a non starter.

2. Like: any rule that allows temporary substitutions or helps the team that actually fouled a player is going to result in an epic shite storm of "gamesmanship" that make people long for days when players just rolled around for a minute and then got on with it.

This is a world problem.

Even in my coed leagues the ref basically does a no fall no foul.

Someone can punch you in the face and as long as you stay on your feet, no foul.
