Not particularly, no. There isn’t a US presence of any appreciable size anywhere north of Iran at all, or east of Iran for many thousands of miles. We have token presence in Syria, our bases in Turkey and the Gulf States, and the Navy in the Indian Ocean/Diego Garcia though.

You say an attack on our homeland is impossible…tell that to the millions of people we allowed into this country undocumented and the inability to trace the vast majority of them.
If you think our adversaries, especially Iran, did not take this opportunity to put people into our country to carry out an attack, then you are very ignorant my friend.
Will they be able to carry it out, I can’t say for sure. But to say it is impossible is laughable.

Over 21 billion dollars in various aid categories has been given to Afghanistan since August 2021 and that comes out to $450 + million per month.

It’s already happening.
Going forward, cyber attacks have the potential to cripple a country more effectively than any truck bomb, random missile, or most other conventional threats.
It is more than possible to plunge an entire country into pre-industrial levels of productivity and security.
We may not hear about them, but these attacks are already being tested out.

Its amazing this hasn't happened yet. One thing we do know is that attempting to appease terrorist never works. So, if your real question is should we have taken this path if it means Iran terrorist might strike, hell yeah!

Trump saw the success of the Israelis strikes so he did a 180 and decided he wants a piece of the action. I don’t see Iran agreeing to give up nuclear technology, which appears to be the demand from Trump. The only other option now is TACO.
