Glenn Youngkin: I won't stop local governments that want to impose COVID mandates

With this, the governor-elect will challenge the land-speed record for traveling from populist hero to RINO sellout.

After his inaugural ceremony on Jan. 15, Youngkin said he will not mandate masks and vaccines but–unlike some Republican governors–he will not attempt to block localities from implementing their own requirements.
“Localities are going to have to make decisions the way the law works and that is going to be up to individual decisions but, again, from the governor’s office, you won’t see mandates from me,” Youngkin clarified in a one-on-one interview over the weekend…
To date, Gov. Ralph Northam has mandated vaccinations or weekly testing for state employees. Although he supports requirements from the private sector and local governments, Northam has stopped short of ordering vaccine mandates for teachers and healthcare workers at the state level as some other Democratic governors have…
Many Republican governors have joined calls to challenge Biden’s plan. When asked if he would do the same during a gubernatorial debate, Youngkin said, “I don’t believe that President Biden has the authority to dictate to everyone that we have to take the vaccine.”

Isn't this how decentralization is supposed to work?

What’s the problem here?
We are for centralization now?

I’m not sure why any actual supporter of freedom and our system of government would have a problem with this.

Businesses are one thing. The local governments are another.

So don't let people decide what's best for themselves?

I'm fine with this in VA.

What local governments in Virginia will mandate Covid issues?
Fairfax County or Alexandria?
I don't see any others doing this.
Maybe city of Richmond or city of Norfolk.

DeSantis is ripping into places like Broward trying to force kids to mask up. I’m sorry, but there’s a very practical reason to ban mask mandates at schools, and it’s so kids can learn how to interact with one another, learn to properly speak, and recognize facial expressions. That’s pretty essential they know how to read nonverbal cues before they go into the real world. Mammals at large very much realize this and it’s stifling our kids.

Ehh he’s not making mandates. how it should be. And he’s against Biden mandating the country. That matters way more to me than if some county in Virginia want to wear chin diapers.

The shite that is permeating all throughout this country has to be removed at every level of government. Go along to get along got us where we are today.

Spoken like a true supporter of big government.
Besides it’s the state legislature’s job to pass laws forbidding local regulations and/or the state AG to fight unconstitutional local covid rules. It’s not the governor’s job.

You are citing AllahPundit, who is HotAir's version of IB Freeman.

Looks like a lot of people in this thread only want small government and freedom as long as it’s the small government and freedom they agree with.

You think allowing local governments to force injections on people is ok?

It’s the best we can hope for in VA.
