Uh, China flipped out over a tweet.
Stay away from classic blunders, never get into a land war in Asia.

War with China? We would win, but no way.

Support and empathize with the Hong Kongers struggle, but I'm gonna have to pass on starting WW3.

How would we react if China sided with antifa in Portland with military force????
Stay the frick out of the fray, HK is NOT a chinese territory, its part of china that was taken by England and eventually forced to give back.
If they want their freedom, come to the US, we will gladly trade them a few somali refugees.

No Japan needs to be re- militarized and take over our responsibilities after all japan has been rebuilt in our image its not the backward feudal state pre ww2

Hong Kong is the red dot, notice how it's not just close to the Chinese mainland, it's in it?
Another map
Notice that Hong Kong is not JUST islands, but some land with a physically shared border with China.
Let's be extremely clear here, any "military action" is going to be smack-dab in the middle of actual Chinese soil. Not near it, but physically touching it.
Suppose the Chinese tried to militarily support one of the reservations on this map
We'd take that as an act of war, and would shoot down any attempt to place forces on the ground, don't you think?
The Chinese would do the same thing in return.

You don’t fight modern adversaries with bombs and bullets. Cmon man, this isn’t news. WW2 was nearly 100 years ago. Those days are over.

HK? No.
Taiwan? Yes (naval forces and air only - no ground troops). We (US) have a strategic interest in pushing back against Chinese expansion in that area.

Hong Kong, No. But they loose their most favored trade status. And we place American armed forces on Taiwan.
Taiwan, No. But we supply them with munitions and intelligence while the conflict is occurring. Also interdicts shipping from the war zone destined for Mainland China and Embargo all trade.
