Please help me understand.

CNN says that workers without bank accounts are having a hard time getting the government stimulus.

Workers without banks accounts are getting paid under the table, thus it is illegal. What the hell is wrong with that

Just because they don’t have a bank account doesn’t mean they are getting paid under the table.

You can get a paycheck cashed at Walmart (and "other" places) for a fee.

Believe it or not there a lot of people here legally that don't have bank accounts and always cash their checks

It's definitely a trash mentality but it exists. I've dealt with people exactly like this during my time as a construction manager. These aren't necessarily illegals. They're just idiots.

I'm sure it's probably more prevalent among illegals but this isn't uncommon

I'm HIGHLY curious as to why you think someone not having a bank account makes them an "idiot"? I went a lot of years without one, and I still, to this day, cash my checks, and only put in the bank what I want to put in there.

If I made more money, I'd have more concern about security risks of keeping cash. But since I don't, I'm more concerned about the government seizing my money for any reason, or no reason at all, than I am about it being stolen by a thief.

And I suspect that most, if not all of those who do not have bank accounts, at all, live paycheck to paycheck, and also don't want their money being seized.

If you paid your taxes and debts you wouldn't have to worry about your money being seized.

The absolute dumbest thing i've ever read here. I've had banks accounts since 1983 and never once was one penny "seized" by the government.

Don't you pay a fee for that?

Have roughly 8 employees out of the 80+ that pick up a check instead of direct deposit. All of them skew older other than one 22 year old. This is in Lake Jackson a pretty blue collar town.

And like someone said it’s typically the fees that get them and distrust/ignorance.

Not for any reason. Unless you owe taxes or a money launderer.

We've seen customers get robbed bc instead of depositing they insist on cashing their checks and then their cars get broken into at the post office after leaving the bank.

You have to love when someone questions why someone/something is an idiot and then when trying to explain an “alternate explanation” fully answers the question themself.

If your credit is really, really bad, you can’t get a bank account.

One of my rent house tenants does not have a checking account and pays the rent in cash. Drives me nuts having to go to the bank to deposit cash every month when compared to electronically depositing checks. But it's better than no tenant.
