But they need to understand that fat, grumpy lesbian fans are not why the league now has primetime games on ABC, NBC, and ESPN

There strict adherence to their own orthodoxy has backed them into a corner. Any solid definitions collapse the house of cards. This is religion for the people that are not religious.

Dude, I've sat in on various committees on local and state and even federal gov't (published in Overcrimininalization of Americans on House Sub Judiciary Committee 2013), and some of them are more ludicrious than others, but the talking points surrounding that table or some must have been something to behold.

This.
It’s amazing how badly the WNBA has fumbled its brief window of potential relevance. They had a generational talent show up and attendance was improving, tv viewership was up, player salaries were exceeding that of uber drivers for the first time, and revenue was going in the right direction.
But instead of embracing it they let players beat the shite out of the talent, largely ignore her from the league level, instead tried to promote the bug eyed sloth mebounder as some kind of female Michael Jordan, and essentially rejected and buried the new attention.
As for me they’ve lost it completely. There’s nothing they could do to get me interested in the WNBA anymore. They clearly want to be a league consumed with racial identity and woke politics and NOT peak performance. So be it. They can live with whatever marketability that provides them. But history shows that woke lesbians and trans people aren’t exactly sports fanatics.
The NBA owners need to shut this down before the losses start accelerating.
