And we have Silicon Valley, yet rely on foreign products for vital items.

Do you think the swamp would go against China if they try to take over Taiwan? I really don't think they would. China is their daddy.

You can kiss every single electronic you might consider purchasing of all industries if something happens to Taiwan.

An attack on Taiwan would hurt us more than an attack on some US cities.

Mediatek, TSMC, etc.

You think there is a shortage on automobiles and other chip dependant items? You just wait.

Every iPhone, most android devices, every random connected device you have? All with chips from one of those two companies.

I say this as someone who thinks that not a single American should get a paper cut filing paper work over the Ukraine situation.

Taiwan is very different. Ukraine is third world crap hole with no value to us other than money laundering for politicians.

Taiwanese companies run the world we all know and love.

Even if China didn't outright destroy that infrastructure or those companies. The CCP seizing control of them means they could start mandating secret backdoors in ALL electronics destined for the US.

The same reason our beloved Orange Man banned Huawei 5G tech.

TSMC. Most major semiconductor companies outsource their manufacturing to them

Ukraine is one of the largest wheat exporters in the world. Russia is one of the largest O&G exporters. Look at what the war did to disrupt the economy.

China-Taiwan would be infintely wore

Not sure I agree with that. The US, Japan, and Australia are all pretty much guaranteed to get involved in that scenario. Which, admittedly, I do not think is likely. China can only lose by invading Taiwan militarily. That isn't their style, they operate in long term win-win scenarios.

IMO, they will eventually absorb Taiwan using the same strategy they used in Hong Kong to integrate it with the mainland. Political infiltration, immigration, etc, that eventually leads to pro-Beijing parties being elected.

All of our semiconductors come from Taiwan. A critical component of literally every electronic device and new vehicle would be controlled completely by the Chinese Communist party.

They make like 80+% of the advanced computer chips in the world. Most likely every chip in the phone you are using was manufactured there. Imagine that under the control of the CCP.

It would turn the entire world upside down, and even for China, it would be economic suicide. The world would turn into chaos, and I don’t really want to be around for that. Humans don’t think clearly when there’s chaos. The Chinese love to make money, and let’s hope their love more money, outweighs their political ideologies.

China taking over Taiwan would be economically murdering the US

Thanks. Would it be cheaper, and easier, to establish that manufacturing in the US rather than engage in a war?

Do you think Taiwan's supremacy in chip manufacturing is anything but earned?

In order for the US to absorb this successfully, they would have to move the Taiwanese to the US

Yes. Chips are 1A.
Strategic military positioning is 1B. With Taiwan being friendly it basically gives the US the ability to shut down the China sea shipping lanes and blockade China if necessary.

What you are saying is that Elon Musk needs to buy TSMC and move production stateside.

probably not. they do have some foundries in the US, in fact there is one about 15 miles from where i live, but they dont manufacture the advanced chips. I dont see the Taiwanese government allowing TMSC to move their vital chip production anywhere else, because then no one would have any incentive to protect Taiwan from CCP, plus its a huge part of their domestic workforce that would be made unemployed.

Chips Exactly, we need to “on-shore” 3/4s of that industry immediately.

This is the problem, our American labor force does not care to do this type of job. Like it or not, we cannot seem to fill manufacturing jobs here.

So either
A)we have to increase immigration so we can onshore this manufacturing and hire immigrants,
And/or
B) government has to stop giving out free shite so these people have to go back to work

There is also an issue of shipping lanes. People think that the sky is big but airlines tend to use the same lanes just like we drive highways.
The same is true about oceans. They're big but most shipping occurs in the same lanes. If China took Taiwan and turned it into a naval base they could extort money from countries that want to use their Pacific Ocean.

It would be painful for us for sure, but we have the ability to manufacture everything. They dont have another market as large as the US.

Yes they could dump dollars but if the US imposed a complete embargo of all things from China they would collapse.
