This is the problem, our American labor force does not care to do this type of job. Like it or not, we cannot seem to fill manufacturing jobs here.
So either
A)we have to increase immigration so we can onshore this manufacturing and hire immigrants,
And/or
B) government has to stop giving out free shite so these people have to go back to work
This has nothing to do with the American workers propensity for work. These are complex systems that we don't have the technical expertise to facilitate the production of.
If the CPC takes over you're going to see that expertise eroded in Taiwan which will drastically impact microchip production

Should you care if China invaded Mexico? Ultimately shitty countries taking over other countries isn’t where we want the world to go.

If we frick around in that potential conflict, even some of the most mundane electrical devices will explode in price and be considered a luxury item.

You shouldn't. Not at all. We don't need their chips

If you ever want to buy a new car with computers inside you should care

Please don't vote. You are clueless.

The chips can made here and the US will be better off for it.

Strategically important but folks the live there need to want to defend themselves.
Their military has an extremely difficult time filling their ranks.
I believe they're about half to 60% capacity with their armed forces and reserves.

Because of TSMC. You dumb arse.

Unless we all want to go back to the 1970’s tech wise we need to protect Taiwan. That said I would very much like to go back to a less digital age but without the dystopia that comes with doing it rapidly.

Why should I care what happens to Taiwan?
1) If you let your enemy defeat your ally, then when your enemy comes for you, you will stand alone. (Plus, we’re kind of obligated.)
2) The importance of Taiwan’s success as a free nation is a true model for other nations to follow. If the most powerful country “in the free world” let’s them fall, that will be a terrible example for future countries to see.
3). The fall of Taiwan combined with the immediate gain of the Taiwan resources by China immediately puts the world into even greater economic turmoil- to an unprecedented level.
4). Taiwan is truly a nation full of genuinely nice people who all want the same freedoms we enjoy - we should want to preserve that.
5) Last, but certainly not least, China is a-hole.
There are many more reasons, but take any 3 from the list above is more than enough.

This is a bit misleading. They have traditionally held small budgets for small military.
Just in the last few years have they increased the budgets to help grow their military branches. Probably is, they always have a surplus of jobs available and the cultural transition of professional to military career is a slow one.
It is happening though.

If China invaded, it gives the US political machine another opportunity to send Billions of dollars to themselves so Taiwan scan fight the evil scourge of China.

If that potential conflict comes to pass in any way, shape, or form, everything will explode in price regardless of what we do.

IMO, they will eventually absorb Taiwan using the same strategy they used in Hong Kong to integrate it with the mainland. Political infiltration, immigration, etc, that eventually leads to pro-Beijing parties being elected.
Sounds an awful lot like a Replacement Theory.

Look at a map. Look at the proximity to Japan.

Because any action taken by Mainland china that is not met by force from the US and Australia would lead to Japan using nuclear devices to stop mainland China. Those 2 truly hate each other and go to serious war at least once a century.

Lots of truth here. Britain and France can be included in this as well IMO, although I think their direct involvement would be limited by their correspondingly lower capabilities. But boh nations have too many possessions in the Pacific to be totally uninvolved though.
Another interesting facet to any China-Taiwan/the West conflict is what it would likely do to the strategic situation between Pakistan and India, given the Quad arrangement and what China would have to do in the SCS. Presuming that Russia would support China, the recipe for a major war on n Asia is not hard to imagine.
