Why is a Republican Senator joining Elizabeth Warren to raise taxes for social security?

What the hell? Lifting the cap on social security taxes is a shite plan in so many ways
1) it turns social security into a welfare program (you no longer get out what you pay in)
2) massive tax hike of 12.4% on incomes considered moderately upper middle class in key areas America (economists believe employers pass on their tax bill to employees in reduced wages, so that’s why I’m including 12.4%)
3) doesn’t actually solve the problem of solvency
4) exhausts any potential tax revenue for other priorities such as education, health care, etc

I wonder why we never see any suggestions from the politicians in DC to reduce the out of control deficit spending through a balanced budget amendment? I wonder why?

Middle-income workers already pay Social Security tax on 100% of their wages. High earners stop paying once they hit the cap, which creates an imbalance they call “unfair”

They continue their agenda to destroy the middle class. Wait until Trump eliminates taxes completely...once we no longer have any national debt.

The better question is why is Elizabeth Warren trying to raise taxes for SS while illegal aliens in this country are receiving SS. Eliminate SS fraud and corruption first. Stop putting US citizens on the hook for your open border policy.

That “imbalance” matches the cap on benefits received If you want to keep taxing after the threshold then the benefits need to be adjusted or call it something different. Plus the burden on employers for high income earners will drive down wages and shrink the workforce

frick them cocksuckers. My wife and I have been maxing it out for the last 12 to 13 years and they want me to pay more for the next 15 to 20 years.

There's a very specific reason for this... The class warfare necessary to bring about a communist revolution is thwarted by the existence of a middle class. They've been trying to wipe out the middle class for years in order to force a "proletariat uprising". And brother, don't think for a moment that there aren't any Republicans playing for this end game along with the Dems.

It's the uniparty.

Without a doubt, we need a good, healthy dose of anti-communism shot into our veins here!

frick that! It’s nice getting a little more back once you get past that threshold.

If congress ever got serious and cared about American citizens they would work harder to end the fraud that is taking place.

If they get rid of the cap, they need to make the SS tax progressive.

Transfer a substantial portion of the "Trust Fund" into SPY the next time the market in down. Rinse and repeat until it is all out of governments clutches.

How about this? End social security.

Lifting the payroll cap will not touch the problem. It will simply increase the amount of benefits owed. The next shoe to drop is a 20% increase in payroll tax, "for the good of all concerned."

Man what a terrible take. There is no reason to place a cap on the tax in the first place. If a cap had never been in place, the system would be completely solvent.
This may not completely fix the issue but it doesn't hurt it.
