A huge portion of MAGA are previously Clinton era Dems. They’ll never admit it though.

Sowell has surpassed Milton Friedman in terms of influencing free market principles in the modern era. imo. True genius.

I’ve voted for dems before but they really worked their arse off for people. Local elections. Never for a dem federal candidate. I was a bit left but mostly out of my frustration with W Bush and his dumb arse sand wars. That didn’t get me to vote for Obama but I knew what I was voting for with McCain and Romney.

I don’t like lobbyists of any kind, but for now that’s who decide how our lives are lived.

I was left leaning before Biden but the billions we sent to Ukraine made me realize the democrats are not America first ( not sure either party is ) . Also kamelas campaign having abortion rights as one of the main issues was another turn off.
Not that I’m against abortions rights but as a single guy it registers less than an about 1% of what I care about instead of the 30-40% of the Kamela campaign made it.

I’m also against men in women’s sports and I think democrats sort of became the party that crowd and trans crowd sort of became afflicted with too.

I’m also at odd with democrats in that I think all illegals should be deported.

I want border security but I don’t want a wall because that affects wildlife migration. I think we need more agents and surveillance.

I’m now registered as an independent for these reasons. I’m American first.

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh at 13 and Ron Paul in college. They just made sense.

I was paying taxes before I could vote. I was probably never a "lefty"

Churchill has a great saying about this.

Started significantly right of center, moved further and further right over the last 5 decades.

I don’t know who actually said that. Churchill is the person most people attribute to once making that statement but I think it’s a subject of debate. Some say he did say it and others say it’s was someone else.

Not me. I knew the truth when I turned 18 and voted for Reagan.

I was a lefty in junior high, I wanted to date a chick that was a softie. Then, as a part of a school project, I interviewed the USCG Captain that ran Galveston, after the Valdez. He schooled the frick out of me about why "evil" oil companies would want to dump millions of dollars into the water, how much double hulled tankers cost, etc.

Then I got a heavy dose of TINSTAFL from my HS econ teacher (Ms Doherty), right before I went to my "it's a living Constitution" AP history class. The guillotine dropped when I had a visiting Harvard prof dispel the rumor of the "noble savage" in a US history class in 1998?

Seems quite opposite. The biggest whiners on this board about Trump and maga have admitted to voting for Clinton.

I was never a liberal. I probably have gotten more tolerant of homo's as I've gotten older. Just don't appreciate having "alternative lifestyles" pushed upon me. But I draw the hard line in the sand with all the trans bullshite and men playing women's sports.

Yep. I don’t get it. No one throws me a parade for being heterosexual.

Do your thing, figs. Don’t expect me to clap like a trained seal though.

It was Reagan/Mondale. I was a steady reader of Jane's Defence, looking at how many tanks the CIA thought (lol) the Russians had, etc. I think I was 7.

Democrats want to feed the poor, (R) want to spend money on defense. At that age, I was aware enough to say, if the Russians nuke us, there won't be any poor to feed.

I started out right wing but moved to defense because I was better at that position.

I once kept the opposing team from getting a shot off on a 3 on 1 break.

I don’t believe it is so much being a lefty as much as it is the Democratic Party going completely off the rails. When younger the south was predominantly democrat. The Democratic Party was viewed as the working class party (Pro unions, etc) while Republican Party was more elitist and pro business. To me things changed immediately after Clinton era. Weirdos and social issues took over the Democratic Party. Most folks just want to be middle of the road with some give and take on both spectrums of viewpoints, but the extremists now won’t allow that. The Republican Party has become more vintage Southern Democrat while the Democrats have totally lost all historical morals and values and embraced ludicrous nonsense: transgender, socialism, anti Christian. I’ve always had the work hard and earn your way mentality. As I’ve aged I have a better understanding of what I perceive to be my core values and beliefs........the Republican Party better represents and supports those values and beliefs.

Let's make one distinction here - Bill Clinton would be seen as center-right these days and would hardly be considered as being a "lefty" in today's terms. He laid off more government employees (400k) than any president in history, had mass deportations, and balanced the budget for the last and only time since his presidency. He was closer to Trump's current platform than Hillary's platform two decades later.

I was too young to vote for him, but I wouldn't look back and feel like I was "left wing" in the terms of this thread.

However, a vote for Obama at any point meant the complete opposite. If you voted for that POS, you were most definitely left wing or paid very little attention to politics and got swept up in the hype. Obama put the American decline machine into overdrive and we're still suffering for it. Bill Clinton oversaw one of the most prosperous and greatest periods in American history. Two TOTALLY different versions of Democrats.
