Who in here started out as a Lefty, then became more right wing over time?

What were some things that opened your eyes?

I was so far Left I voted for Ralph frigging Nader in '00.

Then, I don't remember how, I heard about Thomas Sowell. I ended up buying a copy of Basic Economics. Every page was a wrecking ball to damn near every view I had at the time.

His book The Vision of the Anointed pushed me completely over the edge and made me wish I had a time machine so I could go back and kick my own arse.

Wouldn’t say I was ever a Leftist that takes a mental disorder or cognitive dissonance but I did vote for Bill Clinton in 96’ and McCain in 08’. Those are definitely two votes I wish I had back, I stayed home 20’, not too proud of that one either

If you are not a liberal when you are young then you have no heart. If you are not a conservative when you are old then you have no brain.

I became a right winger after blowing out my rotor cuff in the 14th inning of a no-hitter.

I may be the only person on this board that can claim this. The first vote I ever cast for someone to be President went to Ross Perot.

Jimmy Carter and the Dem Party's hard left was my moment and has not wobbled, much less faltered since

Reading Basic Economics is also when I started seeing the light. I grew up with a liberal dad in a liberal Chicago area, you just kind of were one by default.

Right wing? I prefer the term “conservative”. Been a conservative since I was born.

The only Dim I've ever voted for was Fast Eddie the year he ran against David Duke. As bad as I hated what EE stood for I knew that if DD was elected then all federal funds would shrink or dry up, Louisiana couldn't survive with him as gov.

Always on the right. In high school I was a volunteer at the Nixon reelection campaign in downtown Shreveport. Went on to work in the campaigns of Buddy Roemer, Dave Treen and Jim McCreary.

He’ll, Rip, don’t feel bad as I voted for Obama the first time. Not a lot to lose taking a chance that a Black POTUS might change race issues for the good, and as the wussy Romney just laid down in the Debate.

Live and learn.

Most political beliefs begin with family. I’m glad I come from the right side.

Great to know I had brains going all the way back to the Ford administration.
