I’m glad I’m not the only one that sees this as a huge Pandora’s box. Opening up the possibility of changing the Constitution would be dangerous AF.

If you like the trajectory of the country, the status quo is the way to go.

If you believe there needs to be structural change given trendlines of fedgov power/intrusiveness, you're going to have to proactively make that change. DC will never ever weaken itself. Period.

So what's your play if it's not a COS?

But again, happy with fedgov growing without boundaries in power/intrusiveness, then yeah - status quo is good.

1. Define a natural-born citizen as someone born of at least biological one parent who was an American citizen at the time of the child's birth.

2. Amendment for annually balancing the budget, except in times of declared, active war on another nation. Wartime deficits must be repaid in full within 10 years of the end of that war.

3. Repeal of the Wickard v Filburn ruling, any attempt to use the Interstate Commerce Clause can be done only when a tangible, interstate impact can be proven (not just hypothesized).

4. Any federal official (whether elected, appointed or a federal employee) found of violating any Constitutional right is jailed for no less than 10 years and barred from any elected office or federal job for the rest of their life.

5. Term limits. No one may serve more than 12 total years in Congress.

6. English is the official language of the United States.

7. Revoke the 16th Amendment.

8. Revoke the 17th Amendment.

Political contribution reform:

No one who does not reside in jurisdiction being contested (within the state for statewide, in the congressional district for House seats, etc) may contribute to a political candidate. Also, only registered voters - no PACs, corporations, or other fictitious entity - may contribute.

1) Repeal 17th Amendment
2) Allow for immediate recall of Senators by state governments
3) Expand House so that no district can represent more than 100k people
4) Citizens only for apportionment
5) Absolute bar of consideration of race for anything (explicitly or tacitly)
6) CRs prohibited. Budget cannot be more than 3% in deficit.
7) Cap age for federal offices (and judgeships) at 75. Judges that reach that age are required to retire (no senior status)

The house would have 3,000 members?

On second thought, that might be good. Roll call votes would take five weeks so the House could only pass a handful of bills every year.

Oh...and Congress cannot be in session more than 6 months a year, absent declared emergency by President in concurrence with Speaker and Majority and Minirity Leader. Emergency session can be no longer than 2 weeks and only to address the issue for which the emergency is declared.

Oh, and no PACs or bundling. Campaign donations can only be by citizens of the state where the office is located (Senators won't need it anymore). Presidential candidates can be nationwide (citizens only) capped at $1000.

In addition to many of the great suggestions above:

Decentralize the Federal government, including Congress. Move all the alphabet agencies to locations far and diverse from DC and only allow liaisons, not officers or employees, to enter DC.

Move Congress out of DC and increase the House number to the proportionate figure from the original congress. It's the 21st century, they can do everything they need to do over the internet and from their constituency, and we can build a secure network for them to do it. It is ridiculous to limit the house to 435.

Anti-nepotism: close relatives not allowed to work for other agencies, some restrictions on working for NGO's and returning to Gov, i.e., expand conflict of interest. A lot of thought needs to go into this one.

Take away the prosecutorial powers of DOJ, FBI, DEA, etc. Those agencies will only be empowered to investigate and provide evidence to a state entity. All crimes prosecuted in state courts, not Federal. Special Prosecutor power for extreme cases can be granted but are constitutionally defined and limited.

States can overturn Supreme Court decisions by super majority. Federal Court authority limited to specific jurisdiction, i.e., Hawaii judge can't issue nationwide injunction.

All Federal employees, at any level, have a similar burden as our troops: a responsibility to disobey an unlawful order. It is their job to know what is unlawful.

Codify the Second Amendment as an individual right and clarify that right as universal in all states, even concealed carry.

Reinforce the Sovereignty of the States.

Limit the regulatory powers of the Federal Government.

I can think of a few others.

In addition to the 17a repeal, POTUS limited to a 6 year term, no reelection, ever.

Acknowledge the individual sovereignty of the 50 States

Replace "Union" with "Federation" throughout the Constitution and Bill of Rights

Return to the gold standard

I do not and agree with the changes that everyone is recommending.

HOWEVER, if you think the power brokers and elites of this country wouldn’t infiltrate and control the process you’re kidding yourself. Having a new 1A or 2A inserted to more reflect modern times would be a real possibility. Then we’re truly fricked.

I mean, we can’t even get current Republican politicians to do anything on major issues. You trust them with “revising” the Constitution?

At least now with right minded judges we have the original Constitution to fall back on.

Yep. With senators reporting to the state legislature, mandates from the federal government will be far fewer and BS like the latest border security bill will be a thing of the past.

One object/germaneness rule for congressional legislation. Every bill in congress should be about ONE thing. No omnibus, no unrelated amendment.
