If the RIFs are disastrous like the Democrats will allege then the Democrats should hold firm and force a shutdown because it would be politically ruinous for the GOP.

GOP is betting on the Dems to be more wedded to the institutions than political gain. I know many on here bitch and moan because the GOP doesn't achieve everything they want but they're the only real political party in this country now. They have an agenda and will do what it takes to win elections.

Democratic Party cares about three things: the party patronage/seniority system (a person holding their position in the party is an entitlement earned rather than by merit), norms, and institutions. None of those things involve being a party capable of driving an agenda.

In the memo, OMB told agencies to identify programs, projects and activities where discretionary funding will lapse on Oct. 1 and no alternative funding source is available. For those areas, OMB directed agencies to begin drafting RIF plans that would go beyond standard furloughs, permanently eliminating jobs in programs not consistent with President Donald Trump’s priorities in the event of a shutdown.

I read OMB to mean Orange Man Bad and had a proper chuckle

Trying to force Dems into accepting a clean CR. Trump - give me funding levels that y'all approved under Biden, or I'll gut the government.

Somehow that 3-letter $$ will still roll in though... Almost as if it's not on the books and not from "taxpayer" funds. Almost like there's some sort of illicit method to getting it.

The White House budget office is instructing federal agencies to prepare reduction-in-force plans for mass firings during a possible government shutdown, specifically targeting employees who work for programs that are not legally required to continue.

Trump's move is checkmate. Now they will be scared to shutdown because Trump will do this.

I’ll take some lower unemployment rates to make the government smaller any day of the week.

SFP = cubbies would be a Finkle & Einhorn moment on TD. This site has seen a lot of crazy shite over the years but Slow outing himself as a psycho lib-chick alter would be a top 5 moment for sure. Maybe even top 3.

should not need a shutdown to do this -

The primary driver of the rot in our country is directly related to the glut of federal employees - drawing salaries for doing absolutely nothing === and that is the good ones, the bad ones are engaged in purposefully destroying the very essence of what it means to be an American.

I like it but telegraphing your plan isn't always the best thing. Could have let government shut down, then fired them
