Redistricting Maps Unconstitutional?
Posted by Nikki_T on 11/10/25 at 1:42 pm
This case would affect states nationwide, like overturn CA Prop 50.
A ruling will come sometime next year.

The Supreme Court case Louisiana v. Callais concerns the state's congressional map, specifically the creation of a second majority-Black congressional district in compliance with the Voting Rights Act. The central question is whether drawing this district violates the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments by constituting an unconstitutional racial gerrymander. The case will determine the future scope of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) and whether states can create majority-minority districts as a remedy for racial vote dilution.
Background: Louisiana redrew its congressional map to include a second majority-Black district after a lower court found the previous map violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. A group of non-African American voters then sued, arguing the new map was a racial gerrymander.
Central Issue: The case asks the Supreme Court to decide if creating a majority-minority district, even if it is a remedy for past discrimination, is permissible under the Constitution. Louisiana's argument is that all "race-based redistricting is unconstitutional," according to the Brennan Center for Justice.
Legal Arguments: The core of the dispute is the conflict between the Voting Rights Act's requirement to prevent racial vote dilution and the Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause. The case will explore if the VRA's redistricting requirements are limited by the Constitution, a question that could have nationwide implications.
Court Proceedings: The Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the case in October 2025. A ruling is expected to be issued by the court, potentially impacting upcoming elections and future redistricting cases across the country.

With all the $$$ Trump has won in lawsuits, he could reduce the debt tremendously!
 Why on earth should Trump use any of his personal funds to alleviate the massive debt amassed by his predecessors?
He already waives his annual salary, he really shouldn't but chooses to do so.

You're absolutely right. My healthcare plan thru my employer is great. No complaints whatsoever. Most check-ups don't even require co-pay. My friend has BlueShield thru Obamacare and she pays $50 co-pay for routine check-ups!

You went Saturday morning before 10am. It probably looked exactly like it normally does. No one with food stamps would have been shopping at that time. In fact Saturday morning is some of the best time to grocery shop specifically because you don’t have to deal with that.
According to Rush…welfare recipients wake up at 11am.

Would it change your opinion of her is she didn’t blame Israel?
She is hated in France. Becoming Brigitte series was well done. I really enjoyed her bringing the Macrons to their knees.

I'd like to know, who owns the land that is taken back.
I assume it would be auctioned off and proceeds to to whoever they took it from
You're right about auctioning off seized property/land. It depends on the agency involved, U.S. Marshals Service or U.S. Department of the Treasury.
I agree, it does get murky on where the proceeds go.

But it goes through US Congress, so good luck.
Is it a simple majority? Repugs do control all 3.

I'm single and pay $320 a month for the exact same coverage, no referrals for specialists and $20 deductible with United Healthcare 80 Broad plan.

The dems are shutting down the govt because temporary Covid era enhanced ACA-subsidies are set to expire, an expiration date they set in 2021 when the juiced subsidies were signed by Biden.
Many covid medical positions will be eliminated if no funding from subsidies.
