MYTH NO. 4
When socialism is tried, it collapses.
Communism certainly failed, but social democracy has arguably been the single most successful modern ideology or political movement.
MYTH NO. 5
Socialism offers a ready-made solution to numerous current problems.
Btw.... the author is teaching the future this crap in colleges.

What they are trying to do is a bait and switch.
“Oh look. It’s communism that’s failed! Socialism is good!!!”
Socialism is a necessary step for communism. Government control for redistribution and equality. Then the gov is supposed to dissolve for self rule.
It never gets there because socialism doesn’t build wealth. It drives it away and the system collapses.
No one ever gets to true Communism.

A kibbutz would really be true communism which you speak so you are essentially correct. Problem is the kibbutz is very homogeneous and comprised of like minded hard working individuals. The Soviet communism was a authoritarian dictatorship that forced misery amongst all its population in order to maintain control.

I think communism could work on a very small scale for a short amount of time, until someone gets a taste of power.

The Washington Post, owned by Jeff Bezos, one of the great Capitalists of our time. Socialism is just a means to an end with people like Bezos. I'd be shocked if he really believed in the tenets of Socialism. How about a nice visit to the DMV equivalent when the bank screws up and overdrafts your account? Good luck telling the government they screwed up, and to fix it. Anyone who would consider this for more than a second should be committed to the nearest mental institution.
