Walgreens sucks. Their employees seem personally insulted when customers walk into the stores. Last time I dropped off prescriptions there (there is one two blocks away from my house), they misplaced three paper prescriptions for my daughter’s ear infection, but somehow filled the paper prescription my husband dropped off for our son.
They made their bed.

I used one of the Walgreens in Covington for years. I began to notice a decline in service, and frequent mistakes made with my prescriptions. Not too long ago, I switched to a mom and pop pharmacy. Just my experience with them. Can’t say they’re all bad of course but it’s a sign.

Yes, I love my local mom & pop pharmacy. Mine has a ladies' boutique and an old-fashioned soda fountain with ice cream.
The only Walgreens I've gone to in years and years is the one on St. Charles across from Houston's when I'm visiting family in the area. It's not so nice. They blare loud classical music at all hours to keep the bums away and everything is locked up. I'd be surprised if they make enough to keep that one open.

All of the price gouging is putting them out of business

We shop at CVS here even though the Walgreens is closer. The CVS is nicer and has been remodeled in the last decade...

The python known as obamacare is tightening its grip on healthcare. Too bad it can't be only the idiots who voted for this have to suffer!

The contribution of their DEI hire CEO hasn't been mentioned yet. Walgreens hired former Starbucks CEO Roz Brewer in 2020 in the wake of the George Floyd stuff. She went to work immediately making terrible acquisitions to the tune of billions and making diversity the main focus of the corporate culture there, filling key roles with diverse hires. Walgreens' stock tanked, it's under ten bucks now.
She left three years later, receiving a $9 million dollar severance and $300k a month for an advisory role that ended in February 2024.
They've since hired Tim Wentworth, a guy with experience in the industry as a former CEO of ExpressScripts, and he's trying to turn the company around, going for a GE style turnaround.
Not sure if he's going to be able to. Walgreens, like so many others, was investing heavily in brick-and-mortar at a time when Amazon was building an online retail empire / monopoly.
Seems more likely to go the way of Jurassic K-Mart.

Walgreens and CVS should invest in and lead the way in creating automated pharmacies. The retail pharmacist is a job that should be relegated to mom and pop stores as a concierge service that you pay a premium for. Refills on your Coumadin or BP meds would be cheaper and safer if automated. Not saying there is no role for pharmacists, but automation should take over a large part of their job.

Come to think of it, I have seen moreover the blue/red/pink haired loons and even trannies in both pharmacies over the past couple of years. I guess they ARE still on the DEI plantation.

Yep this. But yeah, the economy didn't do "well" until election time.
It's been in the tank for a while now. About 4 years. Imagine that.

Go to a local pharmacy and help local people. It's what matters. There are 3-4 Walgreens and several other corporate pharmacies within 2-3 miles of my BR house. I can drive to Zachary 40 miles round trip and get my medicine a lot quicker from
A local pharmacy that actually appreciates my business.

In many places they are oversaturated. They bought out Brookshire's/Super 1 pharmacy a couple of years ago. We now have 4 Walgreens on the same street all within a few miles of each other.

I try when I need drugs to use the locals. If they don't have it and I have a sick kid, I'm not waiting a day or two. I usually go to Publix in that case.

I used Walgreens for years and transferred my stuff to a local mom and pop a couple of years ago. They had gotten so slow and customer unfriendly that I had had enough. Blame only themselves for their horrible customer service.
While all of that is true. I am willing to bet that this move has more to do with shoplifting than losses from prescriptions.

They should be SPRINTING towards AI like none other to put in these pop-up clinics. They're a failed company if not.
