Not sure about yall but everywhere I go I see people spending money.
Vacations
Sorting events
Restaurants fill
18 wheelers rolling everywhere

Idk i guess my circle is that I’m not around poor people

The inability of people on this board to look at readily available data is astounding.

IDK brother I’d rather just look at real life data, which is where I go on a daily basis and my job takes me to different states. I’m not secluded to some little Podunk shite town in the middle of nowhere. I see other people other families other ethnicities you’re having a hard time making me convinced that the same old poor people are the ones that’s poor in the middle class and upper class is the one that’s got money and going and spending.

Maybe you know something that I don’t know.

Same. Costs are absurd, everyone wants more for less, and I pay 40% of my income in taxes on top of that to watch it go to everyone in the world but me. F me right?!

What people need is truth.

The truth is that this economic period is no harder than any other in my lifetime. The particular challenges might be different, but they aren't more egregious.

The fact that people are so fricking convinced that they are so much worse is the problem, and like I said earlier, you can't fix a hallucination.

When I post on here that populism will be the end of our society, this is exactly what I have been talking about. The false narratives, doomsday predictions, conspiracy theories, just get worse and more and more people buy into them as the infection of populism continues to spread.

I retired last year. So I’ve lived through a lot of these same economic periods too. I worked my way through grad school, took out student loans and paid them back. I certainly don’t remember it being easy. But I also don’t think it’s a “hallucination” to recognize that some of the basic affordability math has changed. Housing, health care and college costs have risen faster than median earnings over long periods. That doesn’t mean every young person has it worse in every way, but it does mean some of the major building blocks of a middle-class life are harder to afford these days. That's a fact.

Sure. How many people do you know that have 4 buddies that 1. have the time 2. have the knowledge and 3. are even willing to help them physically build a house?

I personally know zero people that fit that criteria.

Acting like this is a feasible solution to affordable housing for young people is fricking stupid.

If you think sidestepping the argument because you know you can't refute it is going to convince me to want to "win an election" just so that the people I vote for can do the same thing that the people I didn't vote for would do, then you can think again.

Call me when you have a logical idea about this that isn't the same leftist appeal that I have heard my whole life for why I should agree to pay someone else's way.

P.S. I wasn't "attacking your sentence structure." I genuinely wasn't sure I was understanding it right, and the theory about why that sentence turned out the way it did that made the most sense to me is that you edited an original sentence, probably in haste. if I had said something like, "You dumbass fricking cuck, you can't even write a coherent sentence," then you'd have a reason to whine about that.

The link to the book was likewise sincere. That's exactly what happens when you give people shite. It's what has already happened...it's why you think young people are entitled to have other people pay their way.

Life has been so easy and so good in America for long enough that we've had a generation and a half or so brought up in Trophy Generation culture who believe that they are entitled to so much stuff that they THINK older generations got that those older generations didn't actually get.

That's exactly why you think it makes sense to just give these people (most of whom already have college degrees, let's remember) taxpayer money.

It's a great book, not just for children, and I didn't recommend it as an insult. It should be required reading for every civics class in America, at the lower and higher education levels.

Thank you. I’m as conservative as it gets. My wife and I do well. I pay BCBS 2300 a month just for health insurance for my family of 5. My family deductible is still like 18k. My home insurance is 7500 a year. I shop at Aldi to save money because of my grocery bill. My sales tax is some of the highest in the nation with awful state services. This is not the 70s and 80s where if you were a white guy with a college degree or higher you were guaranteed a good paying career and benefits.

Were interested in two different things.

I am interested in winning elections and holding power (to then do what I really want).

You are clearly interested in just being right in whatever perceived way you want. Regardless if it gets you power or not.

We are not the same.

Hell it isn’t just 18-30
It’s 30-50
50-70
Work your arse off to live week to week because you were taught and raised that you take no handouts and you make sht happen
To have the Republican Party sht on everyday Americans is just as much a joke as the democrats constantly shittingnon everyday people.
It’s time to quietly end this joke of us being a republic we are not the masses vote for free stuff the working class can’t vote rlthey got to work the rich folks sit back and laugh at us all as their bank accounts and retirement accounts get fatter…

This all started in the 1960’s It didn’t happen overnight and that was the plan collapse the system well the system has collapsed and people need to wake up and realize that…

Ultimately those of us around now have to deal with it

Last try. I'm happy to agree to disagree, but I'm not going to concede that your interpretation is valid.

quote:

This country is built on the very foundation of association.
It was also built on individual accountability. Which principle do you actually want to champion?

Association without individual accountability is just collectivism.

quote:

Every man for himself killed this country.
Unlike you, I'm not ready to concede defeat. I reject the premise that this country is dead, dying, or beyond saving.

And by "this country," I mean something much bigger than its current government or political dysfunction. I mean the foundational principles, the spirit and character of its people, the opportunities those principles created, and the extraordinary natural resources and potential of this nation.

Have we strayed from those principles? Absolutely. Do we have serious problems? Without question. But that doesn't mean the country itself is lost.

Governments change, political fortunes shift, and we go through difficult cycles, but I'm not prepared to write off this country or the ideals that made it what it is. And I certainly won't cower or concede defeat when those ideals are challenged. I'll defend them, and keep fighting.

frick no. Expand trade schools.

Jucos are glorified high schools with worse instruction. Handing out worthless certificates doesn’t advance the economy.

Hospitals costs aren’t a part of young people’s costs.

Having said that, you’ve got some good ideas on housing.

Property tax is a cancer. I pay $500/mo to my county for the privilege of living there. It’s asinine.

My sales tax is 9%.

Your whole life has been subsidized. If we hadnt bailed out the assets of Boomers multiple times, wed have a stable currency and real economy. Your generation chose to send the pain down the road for your children to deal with.

I think everyone would genuinely like to hear a realistic roadmap here.

I think I could articulate a not-implausible case for something not entirely alien to American historic norms, but it's going to look nothing like the eras of our youth and it's going to be entirely bound by economic success alone.
