this is the most dangerous statement made by a CDC official to date.
No.
But it is right up there with some of the slop Tom Frieden put out during his tenure.

How else will she get more of an ever lasting supply of research and travel dollars?

You act like public servants should be in it for the public good and not for their own career interests.

So far, the new coronavirus, dubbed COVID-19, has led to more than 75,000 illnesses and 2,000 deaths, primarily in mainland China. But that's nothing compared with the flu, also called influenza. In the U.S. alone, the flu has already caused an estimated 26 million illnesses, 250,000 hospitalizations and 14,000 deaths this season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

quote:

Typical flu symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, headaches, runny or stuffy nose, fatigue and, sometimes, vomiting and diarrhea, according to the CDC. Flu symptoms often come on suddenly. Most people who get the flu will recover in less than two weeks. But in some people, the flu causes complications, including pneumonia. So far this flu season, about 1% of people in the United States have developed symptoms severe enough to be hospitalized, which is similar to the rate last season, according to data from the CDC.

With COVID-19, doctors are still trying to understand the full picture of disease symptoms and severity. In a small study of about 100 people with the virus, published Jan. 30 in the journal The Lancet, the most common symptoms were fever, cough and shortness of breath. Only about 5% of patients in that study reported sore throat and runny nose, and only 1-2% reported diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

The flu is more contagious, but less deadly. However, our medical standard of care in the US is much higher than China, so the mortality rate of Coronavirus is higher. That doesn't necessarily mean it's more lethal. Again, this is moreso media created sensationalism than the facts reveal. As is typical of our shitty media.

Dems are seeing an opportunity to disrupt the market and economy before the election to hurt Trump. I am betting she is acting on orders from the DNC/Dem Cabal.

With a 2% death rate this virus is not as deadly as the regular flu. I don't understand the panic. Also this is the 19th edition of this virus. What am I missing?

The major disruption will be in the supply chain for so many products and drugs the are sourced in China.

Antibiotics and Chronic medications that are unavailable will be noticed first. Better stock up while you can.

Let's all focus on what the Leftists in the Senate say and want. What they say and want are meaningless. Let the House come up with a " we have to pass it, before we know what's in it " plan. Let's see how far that gets. Nowhere.

PSA

People are confusing overall death totals and death rate. Divide number of deaths into number of cases to get death “rate”.

The flu has killed more people this year but it also infected many many more so the death rate is lower.

COVID19 has killed fewer people than flu but thus far has infected fewer people too...so the rate is higher.

Rush has been saying that COVID19 has a lower death rate than flu...which is wrong.

One question for “it’s just the flu” people. Why would 1/10 of humanity effectively be under marshal law right now if it was just the flu? Even if it was no worse than the flu, the complications of people getting sick thousands at a time in a single town will put an insurmountable strain on our healthcare system. We are simply not equipped to handle that.
