quote:Not really. You'll only get a mortality rate based on REPORTED cases. Symptoms in >80% of cases are described as mild. i.e., likely underreported, especially in less integrated societies.
You'll get a better idea of the true mortality rate in a few weeks once people start recovering from it.

One question for “it’s just the flu” people. Why would 1/10 of humanity effectively be under marshal law right now if it was just the flu?
They wouldn't be. If China didn't quarantine people what would the death toll be? 100,000?

Because the virus was released in an area where containment could be effective. Flu is worldwide.

By the way, I have a root cellar for lease, fully stocked for a month in Texas for for 5 grand.

With a 2% death rate this virus is not as deadly as the regular flu. I don't understand the panic. Also this is the 19th edition of this virus. What am I missing?
Your missing the fact the Democracts want to use this to tank the economy because they know its the only way they can win.

The question is do you really believe the 2% death rate or not
2.1%. The number never changed. From the time China first reported numbers when there were supposedly few cases, hospitals had beds and medication, and doctors were not overworked or dying. Today, the medical system in most of the Chinese cities has collapsed, no medication is available, and patients are put into mass storage facilities with essentially no care to wait for nature to take it's course - 2.1%. It's the miracle 2.1% virus - or a communist regime is spouting bullshite. We will find out with numbers from Italy as the virus spreads and their medical system also becomes overwhelmed. Let's hope the CCP numbers are right and it just a roll of the dice to see if you are part of the 2.1%, with or without medical attention.

There is a doctor that posts here who also happens to live in Honk Kong. By his own first-hand accounts your post is fear-mongering at the very least. Stop the speculation.

I didn't hear her comments but I have been keeping track of the economic effects of this virus. People staying in their homes rather than out spending money can kill an economy real fast. Panic buying has occurred everywhere it has presented itself and those who are unprepared to feed themselves for extended periods of time will suffer the consequences. My suggestion is to stock up on can goods that will last three months or so as an insurance policy. If this all blows over, you can either eat them or give them to the local food pantry.
You have to eat. Buying food to last through any possible disruption is a wise choice at this time. Beat the herds and get the cheap stuff while it is still there or end up having to settle for whatever everyone else couldn't afford or didn't want, if it's there at all.

I'll bet you all your can goods that it will not reach such levels of need in the USA.

Hong Kong is very different from mainland China. I have spent time in both places. The Chinese numbers are very suspect and we won't have anything we can believe until we see it spread in a first world country as it looks like it might in Italy.

The major disruption will be in the supply chain for so many products and drugs the are sourced in China.
Antibiotics and Chronic medications that are unavailable will be noticed first. Better stock up while you can.
Perfect time to make adjustments so that we can be more independent in this area.

This is inaccurate with regards to the virulence/clinical manifestations of these viruses.
There is no data to suggest COVID-19 is less “lethal” than the seasonal influenza virus. Early data suggests COVID-19 may be more lethal, but these numbers are still early and may change over time.
