No you won't.
And no one stopped her from saying anything. She has freedom of speech. She does not have the freedom from consequences. If you are employed, and you say awful shite, your employer has the right to fire you for it. The government, however, can not imprison or fine you for it. That would be infringement upon free speech. Firing someone for being a grade A a-hole is not.

I hope her life ends today violently and painfully with her family watching. The world would be a better place without her in it.
If she lost her retirement 1.9mm might be enough for her to live on barring any major medical issues that arise.
After taxes she has exactly 1 major medical emergency remaining.
Getting the money and remaining on top are different skill sets.

UTK should pay the $1.9M in her native Armenian Dram currency value - a total of about 5 grand USD
there's a special place in Hell for her anti-Christian sub-human sick mind - hopefully she arrives soon -
as for UTK - quit employee crazy people -

Ironically the settlement is not even enough to fix everything wrong with that face.

quote:The argument being made is that government consequences encasing employment of government funded entities if that free speech would go against a code of ethics at any other place of employment, seems to be weak argument. I understand the First amendment as well as arguments and court cases used by the university's lawyers here to encourage a settlement. I just think as some other posters have voiced that there is a blanket coverage being applied where it shouldn't be applicable.
Free speech ceases to exist if there are govt consequences for it
Ultimately the university cut a professor teaching a very low hanging fruit curriculum by all accounts, and after the donation clears will net 8.5MM as well as not having to pay a salary to someone that they hired to teach classes whose students I'm sure donate less to the university collectively per year than they make in beer sales during a weekend series in softball.

People fail to understand that key point. I don't see how she won that money. TN is an employment at will state. If she had a contract and they fired her without pay, then I could see her winning. But if the contract had any language about her damaging the reputation of the college, then she didn't deserver a single dime.

The university saved money in the long term with that deal.

I agree
You can’t just protect the speech you like and go along with
That’s sort of the entire purpose

TN did win by getting rid of her but paying a $95K a year “professor” $2M is malfeasance. Reassign her to the janitorial section and have her clean bathrooms or something. These colleges don’t spent the money like it belongs to them. It’s free money to them and they take the easy way out by raising tuition and begging donors. They’ll just raise football tickets $20.
I bet Tony Vitello would have liked an extra $2M budget to buy players. Of course he’s gone now but just saying.

The same people championing her free speech will be lecturing us on the consequences of free speech the next time a conservative says something offensive.

A jury never decided whether the University did anything wrong.
It was the Universities decision to give this women1.9 million dollars after firing her. As shitty as this woman is, her First Amendment rights were violated. The amount of mental gymnastics that some of you will do to prove a point is incredible.

$95K a year was just her salary, not her entire salary expense. I bet her total compensation package was upwards of $150K w/the state's share retirement and health insurance, etc., contributions.

That other guy who went to jail for a month got nearly a mil. What’d you think was going to happen when you blatantly violated their 1st amendment rights?
You clearly don’t understand the law or how jury trials work. A settlement is not a trial or an admission of wrongdoing.
None of these cases you have cited actually proceeded to trial. A jury would have to decide whether there was a constitutional violation and whether the person deserved money.
