If this is true from 1898:
"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."
Then why did we have to pass a Constitutional amendment in 1924 to make native Americans legal citizens? Were they not subject to the US jurisdiction?

You can’t be fired for saying something your employer doesn’t want you to?
I’m sure it differs per state, but surely I couldn’t go around saying the n word and expect to be able to receive money if I’m fired.

Private company, yes you can.
Public entity, you still can (or at least you used to be able to), but it's a lot harder.
