but you want to keep SS in place. Likely because you will personally benefit from it
Wrong. I personally won't need it. I've delayed gratification and lived far below my means to ensure that. I think SS should be kept in place because people like you have been forced to pay into it under the promise that it will help your retirement.

Regular people do utilize food banks. Unless you think being unable to afford food at any given point is some sort of disease or defect that renders someone abnormal
No they don't. It is not customary, usual or normal for a person to need a food bank. I'm not disparaging them for issues beyond their control because I know that's where you're going next. But, needing a food bank is not "regular."

Odd that you’re up in arms over a food bank but you’ve never started a thread demanding the government to defund the interstate system.

The interstate system never should have happened. It already exists now. We aren't going to be tearing it all up tomorrow.

I fully support the feds handing control of those roads to the individual states where they reside. The feds already don't maintain the ones in Alabama.

What is the job of the federal government?

If we all agreed on the answer to this question, we would actually be a unified nation. What the founders believed and what it has evolved into are 2 vastly different things.

The answer is and should be:
1) national security
2) infrastructure, in conjunction with the states

Everything else should be left to the states alone.

Geez Getting back a fraction of money that was taken out of your paycheck, your whole work life, is not a "personal benefit" SS isnt like other taxes. It's a broken "pension" program.

Respectfully, I encourage you to not view SS that way. Think of it as a sunk cost like all other taxes.

I agree. frick them.

The government didn't put them in their shitty situation, they did. It's not the government's responsibility to unfrick their stupidity.

Oh--and the family is know that uses a food bank--half of the food they get goes to waste or is given away. Because they're too fricking lazy to make proper meals.

One is not "regular" at that point. Are you wanting to play semantics now?

There’s the classism and elitism that fuels the political division we’re experiencing.

Someone needing help with food at any given time is subhuman. Not one of “us.” Punish them.

I would much prefer to have food banks around than food stamps.

A funny aside on this point.

In theory, MAGA is doing the opposite.

In reality, your point above stands, which shows the sincerity of the MAGA movement and how the population cohorts of a higher class/education level really see the poors in the movement.

You’re full of shite. Unless you live with this family, how would you know what gets thrown away? How would you know what they eat for every meal?

Ohhhh I don't. Why I hate it when people freak out out when reforming it is talked about. Leave it alone for the older group, but fix it or get rid it of it for young people. Because old people freak out, young people keep getting screwed. As the can gets kicked down the road. Find a way to sunset set the dang thing already.

With that said, sunk cost or not, it's still not like other taxes. It's 100% different and separate, and shouldnt be looked as such.
