Why is it the same places that won't grow their own food.

quote:

ROME — Aid projects in crisis-hit countries from Afghanistan to the Horn of Africa have been suspended and staffing cut after President Donald Trump froze hundreds of millions in annual U.S. funding to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization

quote:

If that money disappears overnight, there’s not a single aid group that won’t feel it. In places like Afghanistan and Sudan, there’s simply no one else delivering aid at this scale. That means millions could fall back into crisis-level hunger.”

But wait it's worse!

Western diplomats fault Qu for running the FAO in a way that mirrors Beijing’s centralized style of governance, reinforcing China’s influence in global food policy.

This is not the fault of the US taxpayers and they should not have to shoulder the burden

Wow, story sounds familiar. Here we provide them a check and they don't work and overseas we provide a check and they don't work. Sorta sounds like we need to stop providing checks.

Actually it is. People in these places would probably have resolved their conflicts that keep them constantly at war with each other instead of growing food and prospering. The US aid gives them a false lifestyle that can be had without facing their societal problems. In short, we addict them to our aid.

Cut off the aid. There will be a period of suffering, but that path is the only one that will eventually lead them to normalcy - or not. Maybe it will lead them to extinction as has been the case with other primitive peoples. That’s okay too.

The sign in the national parks is instructive. It says something like -

“Don’t feed the animals. They will become used to it and lose their ability to feed themselves.”

I understand what you're saying and agree for the most part. But it's not like there was a nationwide referendum on any of this shite and people supported it. I think it's fair to say that most taxpayers oppose the vast majority of bullshite foreign aid and are unaware of how it's being spent. So it's not the taxpayer to blame for this, it's the a-hole politicians and associated bureaucrats that have been giving away trillions of mostly unaccountable dollars for the past fifty years that have simultaneously fricked the taxpayer and the people receiving the 'aid'.

I think Americans by and large are generous and compassionate people and most would actually support a lot of foreign aid, under the right circumstances, namely that we actually have surplus funds to give as aid. Instead, everyone's got their hand out when we're running two trillion deficits. That is not sustainable and nobody with a brain supports that.

There are some theories that food abundance leads to wars in human societies.

Penrod, You are so very right my friend. Throughout the Caribbean and South Central America I see this play out over and over.

As an example, the US, through one of its agencies was supposed to build a water plant. The govt had the money, but they had stolen it. So the US moves in and lets the same govt oversee the project.....and the project money is stolen as well. A few years pass, another "US rep" decides to donate the money......and stolen again.

So the money for the plant has been stolen three times and the people still dont have water.

Had the US stayed out of it, and many other projects, the govts wouldnt have the stolen money for breads and circuses and the people would oust them.

100%
The US government protects corrupt politicians to promote stability at the expense of the people.

It certainly used to before the advent of nations. Back then when the crops were harvested, and were bountiful, enterprising young men would gather warriors and set out for fun and adventure (and women, to be honest). These days they start businesses.

Maybe in places like Somalia it’s still like it used to be and our food aid is allowing them the luxury of time to go around raping and pillaging.

Then why are people bitching about tax cuts? Time to shut the atm down.

I agree with you btw, but I’m just tired of the crying wondering how we would pay for all this. You don’t.

What do you get when you feed 100 starving 3rd worlders? 1000 starving 3rd worlders.

That's all it accomplishes. It just makes it worse.

Is food insecurity a new term? I've never heard it used until the last few years.

Trump should pick one of those "sponsor a poor" websites and market it for anyone that wants to donate to fill this void. Put your money where your mouth is libs.
