Trump didn't start the Kurdish conflict b/c that's hundreds of years old

Trump didn't get the US involved in Syria

Trump also didn't start NATO, nor did he allow Turkey in NATO

And with the wholesale Ethnic Genocide of the Kurds, and the release of ISIS heathen...Erdogan is out on a limb over great white shark infested water. He'd better cut a fair deal.

That aside, the Kurds ought to reconsider their desire to take part of Turkey and make it their own Nation. Now is not the time. Though it is a good time to focus World attention on that area.

So Trump has disarmed another war without using the military...at some point, people will realize he is the greatest diplomat president since Regan. Unlike Clinton, Obama, and Bush, the world is actually a safer place and Americans are less likely to die in foreign lands under Trump.

Not quite yet but it looks like Turkey and the Kurds are headed in that direction with Vice-President Mike Pence and National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien to mediate negotiations.

It's like the Neocons are more mad about the fact that Trump is revealing economic leverage as a tool to solve conflicts over military action than simply removing troops. They would rather send in troops and spend MIC money than apply economic leverage and save money in an attempt to solve conflicts.

To be clear, Erdogan has not agreed to any "peace deal" and his forces are still slaughtering Kurdish civilians near Tal Abyad and Ras-al-ayn. Why the Turks would negotiate with the Kurds now is a good question as the Kurds have signed an agreement with the Syrians and Russia for Syria to take over administration of the Kurdish held areas.

If we agree with the general premise (getting our troops out), a much better strategy would have been to have done a strategic withdrawal where the Kurds had a bit more time to negotiate a better deal with Syria and Russia, and where the US troops situated on the border could have turned over those posts to Syrian troops as opposed to just leaving them empty which encouraged the Turkish invasion. Instead, Trump let a phone call with a dictator lead to the deaths of over 500 Kurds at this point. Their deaths were pointless.

If we were to go this route Trump would have had no leverage to implement this executive order.

Order matters in this situation. Turkey has to prove they are bad then we react. We can't react against nothing. We threatened Turkey before they acted but we did not act. Now that the EO is in place and Turkey has acted badly we now have rightful justification to apply leverage on Turkey.

Kurds were not going to come to the table and be reasonable until they knew the Turks were going to try to wipe them out

There had to be some bloodshed to get Syria, Russia, the Kurds and Turkey to want a deal

I guess my question is then what happens when Turkey simply drops trade with the US, and engages all trade with Russia & Iran? At some point, NATO has to discuss kicking Turkey out so shite can be done

King Dollar is the power here. Not trade between the US and Turkey. Access to the international banking system is a big deal

Turkey also has to worry about Europe backing this. Which they probably will if the Turks continue to be bad actors in this situation

Their economy would be wrecked. We buy a lot of steel from Turkey.

And a lot more. Read the EO. Access to U.S. markets would be severely limited and costly. They would be crushed.

Again, Trump is the only man alive with the guts to use the massive economic power of the US economy in a way previous presidents used tanks and bombers.

It's fricking brilliant and he gets zero credit for it.

Eh, it's about 5%. The EU makes up the majority of deals with Turkey. Which makes it even more important that NATO have talks about kicking their arse to the curb.

Yeah, it really seems like the sides will be clearly drawn after this. I just saw a report where there's Russian mercs already occupying the strongholds where the US were staged with the Kurds.
