Sometime I want to lose so that I can enjoy winning again. So much winning.

If losing is not wasting American lives for some Middle Eastern conflict that has nothing to do with America I'll take that loss every time.

That’s weird - I thought Erdogan was begging the deal maker to make a deal?

Erdogan answers only to Putin at this point, and it looks like Putin has told him to tap the brakes. Hopefully this (crippled Turkish economy from sanctions and a largely failed offensive in Syria) is a huge black eye for Erdogan that leads to him losing power in the next election.

Has Turkey ceased all aggressive operations after making this request?...

The Turks are scumbags. It's obvious that this request for negotiations was just to buy time.

I don't understand the rush to remove U.S. Troops that were almost exclusively in advisory positions without some negotiated agreement about what would happen when we left.

Was this just meant to be another distraction?

Don't we want them there as a deterrent against Russia?

Yes. He could have just as easily told the Kurds he was out in a week and then Syrian troops could have manned the observation posts. This newly generated conflict was completely unnecessary.

We need to get the nukes out of Incirlik ASAP and then really start to work on cratering the Turkish economy.

We tried to negotiate. The Kurds didnt want to.

Syria didn't want to.

Turkey didn't want to.

So at that point, what the frick do you do?

It's an endless war.

People are saying, we needed to have a different exit strategy.

There isn't one. Getting out of these quagmires aren't easy. If there was, Obama would have done it.

There will inevitably be a power vacuum when we pull out.

No one, until now, had the intestinal fortitude to pull out and deal with the ramifications. It's better politically to keep the status quo.

Thank God for Donald John Trump. It takes guts to do what's right even when short term it's not a good political move.

Except Erdogan never begged Trump to mediate.

Also, who could have ever seen this coming?

Begging is a bit more extreme form of asking.

Asking is just asking.

Were Vice-President Mike Pence and National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien not asked or are they just going to show up uninvited?

Ottomans sowed the seeds of hate over a millenia. We lucked out that Malta, Lepanto, and Cyprus drained the blood for fighting for Europe and and the Dutch, English, Spaniards , French, and Portugal had mastered the oceans while landlocking them against Russia and India.

Spanish treasure fleets sinking everyone's economies also helped.
