You abandoned the country for a third world shite hole. Your opinion on what Americans in America should accept is irrelevant.

No. The fact that you continue to use data is the “gotcha”. Go ahead and fire back, hypocrite.
So anyone using data of any sort is a hypocrite if they don't want data centers built in their community or think that the communities are being outright lied to about their impact and use?
Are you f'ing serious with this?

First data centers were built in the 40s.
As technology has improved and populations have grown, so has the need for larger and larger ones.
Again, no one complained while steaming Netflix about the need to expand for cloud computing years ago.

They should call them compute centers, it's a more descriptive and less menacing name.

Yes, just like climate change nuts who won't change their behaviors.

GOTCHA!!!!

I've noticed where I'm at that the councilmen who so enthusiastically support and approve data centers to be built next to other peoples neighborhoods aren't so enthusiastic about building them next to theirs

Yeah I guess that would be accurate if I were running an AI based company but since Im not I dont see how its any sort of real retort?
Everything Im currently doing is supported by current data infrastructure and doesnt require a data center in every county.
The people downvoting should go talk to the farmers who signed leases for solar or wind farms on how that turned out for many of them.
quote:
Multiple legal and agricultural sources warn that vague or developer-favorable decommissioning clauses can leave landowners responsible for removing panels, foundations, roads, and restoring the land (costs potentially in the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, or more for large sites) if the solar company defaults, goes bankrupt, or walks away. Special-purpose entities (common project vehicles) may have limited assets at the end of a 25–50-year lease. Reports note past cases of abandoned equipment requiring landowner cleanup, and insufficient bonds or salvage-value offsets that fail to cover actual costs. New York coverage has referenced inactive/abandoned solar sites and high estimated decommissioning figures (e.g., tens of millions for some projects)
quote:
The same UK multi-site study found soil organic carbon ~9% lower and particulate organic matter 24–29% lower under panels versus gaps/pastures.
A Welsh study found consistently lower soil respiration and root density under panels, which can hinder recovery from construction compaction.
A Central Italy study after 7 years of panels reported dramatic drops in total organic carbon (-61%) and total nitrogen (-50%) under panels versus inter-row areas, along with reduced microbial activity.
Meta-analyses and reviews note mixed but frequently lower carbon under arrays, especially where topsoil is stripped or vegetation is poorly re-established
quote:
Logan County, Oklahoma, residents at a 2024 community meeting reported that people who had signed wind leases later described it as “the biggest mistake I have made in my life.” Speakers said many signees were afraid to speak publicly because of gag orders in the contracts and had effectively lost surface rights.
quote:
In northwest Iowa, landowners received letters around 2010 informing them that their lease payments were being reduced because the developer’s revenues were down due to lower wind production.

They're not going to let the Chinese win the AI race. And it's really just as simple as that. Bitching about it won't do any good. The military application of AI is a bigger deal than the development of the nuclear bomb.
The federal government ends just under 30% of total US land. If it's that big of a deal, why aren't these being built on federal land?

Are data centers to help the alien take over?

How is China handling them?

I saw the idiot Tlaib was proposing that.
Uh so what are we supposed to do move the ones the NSA,CIA,FBI, DOW, HHS, DOE and others already have on federal property.

They lied about all that shite just like they're lying now.

Totally agree with Trump here

Ads on TV where I live. Data centers do their own power and water…..
Seems great.
If it means reduction in my taxes I am for it. Well I am for it in general I want more AI fast…….use it for lots of stuff without spending any time figuring it out…..

A lot of talk right now about one being built in Livingston Parish. I am anxious to see how this plays out.
