But we don’t even have this. We just had a president starting a war with zero oversight. And don’t say it’s not a war bc I’ll post a video of Trump himself calling it a war.

Cool. We also have presidents calling Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, etc being called was despite their not being declared wars.

How do you know if I complained or not?
It’s why I prefaced my post the way I did.
So have you?
ETA: the wording of your post STRONGLY implies you think this is a Trump thing, btw. And that we are hypocrites.

Did it bother you when Obama was shooting missles into 8 different nations in one year?
He was too busy trying to quell the shivers running down his leg ever since election night 2008.

You are hypocrites. I’ve been against going into the Middle East no matter who the president is. Let’s do America First. Think about the amount of money we are spending that could help so many of our own people.

“ So we just accept now that a president can declare and start a war. No congressional approval? Such a change in how you all felt when Dems were presidents.”
Is that you Rand?
Is that you Thomas?

The Defense Production Act is literal socialism. The government tells manufacturers what they should make instead of consumers.

That sure is a lot of words to say "I don't care about the constitutional principle of checks and balances, or the separation of powers."
I would argue that this is a constitutional check and balance against a congress and judiciary that have been every step of the way circumventing the will of the people who voted for Trump and all his campaign policies.

No doubt some are indeed hypocrites.
But not because of their views on Congress and declaring war.

FYI, This isn't something new. And it is how this works.

Enabling a one-man government to circumvent the other branches in the name of direct democracy is the exact opposite of a check on government power. If it prevents the power of one branch from being limited by the others, it isn't a check. That's like claiming to have a brake on your car that makes it go faster.
quote:- James Madison, The Federalist 47, 1788
The reasons on which Montesquieu grounds his maxim are a further demonstration of his meaning. “When the legislative and executive powers are united in the same person or body” says he “there can be no liberty, because apprehensions may arise lest the same monarch or senate should enact tyrannical laws, to execute them in a tyrannical manner.” Again “Were the power of judging joined with the legislative, the life and liberty of the subject would be exposed to arbitrary control, for the judge would then be the legislator. Were it joined to the executive power, the judge might behave with all the violence of an oppressor.”
