The same ppl will be doing it now or day one so there’s no difference. They can’t just deny clearances because they don’t like them

If the DOJ is hellbent on disrupting your presidency to the point that it will contribute fictitious evidence to politically-charged investigations that could send you to jail, you might not want them being part of the process of selecting the people that are being hired to clean up the corruption.

Imagine choosing a person and doing your own background checks and interviews and finding nothing but then having the dept of Justice do a background check and finding some serious charges/convictions which were not disclosed by the candidate during interviews or uncovered in your personal background checks….

Wrong.
President can grant clearances to whomever he wishes.
For practical purposes, unless Trump wants to spend all day every day granting them, you do the background check and grant 'blanket' clearances.
We're talking from the mundane (e.g. ID badges for specific areas/buildings) to sensitive material here.
By doing the background checks it allows the cabinet member to handle the mundane from their office. Without it, Trump can and would have to handle every single granting of privileges to every employee because the law (passed by the congress) doesn't allow him to extend/delegate that power unless a specific process takes place- which includes background checks.

You have no idea of this. It could be that Trump negotiated a deal in which people who were not radioactive would be in charge of the background checks. Clearly he is worried about the Deep State manipulating background checks to prevent outsiders from wielding power.
