This entire suit is an exercise in lawfare. An obviously false claim brought about in a friendly jurisdiction that was only allowed because of an act of the state legislature expressly targeted to get Trump.

the fact that she got a settlement against trump at all, not just an absurdly huge settlement, is preposterous. She was saying obviously false and damaging things about him, and he merely used his first amendment right to deny it and defend himself against slander

Trump being who he is would never have tried to band this woman as there was never a time when she would have appealed to him. That said the law reversal, the state law and civil law regarding had expired, seems like a good way to approach this as it was passed to sue him and only him. The governor said as much and proclaimed to everyone else that any further actions against others are not needed

This argument in OP may actually have a shot of holding up, moreso than the similar attempts in the NY criminal case (which will likely be sent back down for other reasons).

This is what I'm wondering. I remember the NY Supremes seeming to show a great deal of disapproval toward the prosecutors during the appeal arguments. The prosecution actually ended up focusing more on why they shouldn't be sanctioned and all but ignored any argument as to why the convictions should stand. And that's been . . . amost a year ago? Where the hell is their decision?
