a dirty little secret of libertarianism is its not intrinsically opposed to globalism; it may actually require it.
its kinda like communism where it only works if everyone does it

I'm sensing the meter of Particle Man.

In the absence of the kind of sweeping reforms necessary to institute a UBI-for-entitlements grand bargain, my second-best solution is to replace as many forms of welfare as possible with unconditional cash assistance. So if anything I would like to see reform in the other direction, the entire EBT system scrapped and simply replaced with regular old checks.
People who want to waste their aid money will find a way to waste it, because they're always going to be more motivated and agile than a bureaucracy.
You're missing the glaring problem with this...and UBI as well.
Politicians will buy votes by upping the amount provided. Whether it be straight payment welfare or UBI.
"Vote for Jeb Bush the VIII! He'll increase your UBI by 10%! Think of the children!"
"Vote for Hillary the VI! She'll end poverty by increasing the UBI by 20%!"
You don't hate children do you losh?

When has the government tried to teach people to fish? I'd rather limit the food programs to bare bones sustenance, but that's not politically feasible these days

This is actually one good reason why I really don't identify as a libertarian anymore.
It just doesn't work.

See at least you get to drift away from the ideology quietly
You don't get multiple dumbasses barging in every thread with OHO GOOD SIR BUT I THOUGHT YOU WERE A LIBERTARIAN! YOUR RUSE IS UNCOVERED! I AM VERY SMART!

I prefer government food stores. You must go pick up your healthy food to sustain life without perks and shop with the other poors. Stay out of our purchased food stores. The stores would hate it because the over distributed food cards drive prices up.

I don't identify to an ideology because it "can or cant work"
I identify to it because it's right.

And I disassociate from it because I learn that it's wrong.
After the last few years, I would call myself a paleoconservative that's extremely hawkish with some contradictory stances and jaded on quite a few issues. Emphasis on jaded.

That's alot of words to say "douchebag"

This system is broken and requires overhaul. You are a fricking buffoon if you think otherwise.

You're not wrong.
I definitely believe in some douchey things but I've made my peace with it.

Account for a family without a stable address. Or a family that's effectively homeless. Or a family that has their 'food parcel' stolen from their doorstep. Or a package that's lost in the mail. Guess Americans can starve so you can live out your ignorant Randian fantasies, eh?
You see this is the problem with you worthless fricks. Instead of saying “This idea has potential but i can see A, B, C being potential problems. If there’s ways that could solve these, I think I could get behind this”
Then the rational, logical and NORMAL people could retort “Yeah, I can see that. What about D, E & F as solutions”
But no, you just like to be a fricktarded idiot and just say “Yeah, frick the poor people”.
The bullshite is old, people are tired of it.
“Trying to find solutions to govt fraud is racist” GTFO
/fricking rant

In general I think anti-poverty programs should have a narrow, honest remit of simply giving poor people money. But since "giving poor people money" is not very popular when honestly stated as such we try and sweeten it up with all these Protestant Ethic paeans to how we can exert control over and thereby improve poor people's lives, ignoring that the government just isn't good at teaching people how to fish.
yeah the DEMs won't ever risk a 100% direct cash benefit b/c of the risks involved of being blamed for "Taking away" benefits
the GOP won't ever risk their corporate sponsors possibly losing out on this gravy train

Dont know how I missed this thread but I found it when searching before posting my own.
Absolutely fantastic idea. My own idea was to have stores stock foods labeled as USDA SNAP approved and ONLY those could be bought with food stamps. (also could be bought with cash by normal customers).
No more baby-back ribs and gallons of super-sweet corn-syrup flavored "fruit drinks". These foods hit the taxpayer double-fold. First when they are bought, and second when medical bills pile up ($$$$) from eating like shite.
A person was in front of me who bought probably 20 Airheads and only Airheads from the checkout candy center with a food stamp card. Just walked out double fisting candy bars paid for by the government.
Oh, and expect mega pushback from BIG money corporations. Conagra, CocaCola, Pepsi are all going to be lobbying hard against this move by trump. May even run ads talking about how this bill will "remove simple pleasures from poor people". Bitch, go masturbate if you want a simple pleasure.

I didn't see steak and lobster on the list; why is Trump trying to kill people?

I'm good with this, though I am curious as to the type of infrastructure needed. Will they actually send food directly to them, or send vouchers that can only be redeemed at locations that will parse out food?
The amount of infrastructure required to physically deliver food to that many people on a regular basis is mind boggling.
