There is no evidence presented that this change in provision would amount to a cut at all. Hence "speculative bullshite." In fact I can easily see a future where this policy is implemented, is found to cost more than it saves, but can't be switched back because now contractors are on the gravy train.
Yes-it is cheaper than handing out cash, and would probably also lower our healthcare costs (less sugary drinks and more healthy food). See above-I studied this very issue in college.
Much nutritional assistance used to come in the form of commodities-based in-kind transfers handed out by the government: cheese, peanut butter, powdered milk, rice, bread, etc.
But it's easier to buy votes with free money and sugary drinks than it is with healthy food. And big food corporations (Coca Cola, Frito Lay, etc.) like things the way that they are.
Hence, we are where we are.

Buy lobster with your own money. If you want the American tax payer to feed your broke arse, shut up and enjoy the gov't cheese.

The only "problem" he wants to "fix" is poor people buying food items he doesn't think they're entitled to.
What makes them "entitled" to them? If they work and can afford them I say go for it. Plenty of jobs out there right now.

What will be the solution if this program is actually implemented and recipients just start selling the food they receive?
If you sell your food, you don't eat. That's pretty simple.

How in the hell are people supposed to by their snow crab legs and fresh shrimps with this policy?

Contract the program to WalMart if supply chain efficiency is a concern.

Actually a good idea. But those who use the program get their own lanes.

Interesting. Great idea.

Has anyone estimated how high the piles of dead bodies will be if this plan is implemented.
Last I heard it was about 300MM a day for the forseeable future.

What reform would you like to see in this area?

That's very unfortunate. I also give food instead of money, and I always get very grateful responses.

this will reduce fraud and reduce usage. They say they want food to feed their family...have them prove it.
Just like DACA isn't about helping poor illegals, foodstamps is more about political favor currying than feeding the poor.

I'll give them $5. I'm not their moral guardian and a half pint of vodka will bring more joy to them that a McCheesy burger
