If it makes people more inclined to work, maybe not

fricking yes. There is a stigma attached to government cheese that makes folks get off their arse and work. Pride can be a powerful motivator.

I'd prefer just putting money on people's accounts and letting them blow it anyway they choose. Get rid of the bureaucracy.

What reform would you like to see in this area?
In the absence of the kind of sweeping reforms necessary to institute a UBI-for-entitlements grand bargain, my second-best solution is to replace as many forms of welfare as possible with unconditional cash assistance. So if anything I would like to see reform in the other direction, the entire EBT system scrapped and simply replaced with regular old checks.

People who want to waste their aid money will find a way to waste it, because they're always going to be more motivated and agile than a bureaucracy. Also even a hypothetically perfect fraud prevention mechanism still indirectly enables any underlying wasteful habits as therick711 pointed out earlier.

In general I think anti-poverty programs should have a narrow, honest remit of simply giving poor people money. But since "giving poor people money" is not very popular when honestly stated as such we try and sweeten it up with all these Protestant Ethic paeans to how we can exert control over and thereby improve poor people's lives, ignoring that the government just isn't good at teaching people how to fish.

How does a family without an address or house use EBT? Sincere question.

SIAP, but add on the mandate we've all dreamed of for years- make SNAP recipients pass a monthly drug screen before receiving benefits- and I'll be doing back flips. My wife and I bust our asses to make just enough money to not quality for any government or state assistance. But we damn sure get taxed, so I'd be happy seeing people who exist off of my tax dollars have to actually deserve the help. Why should the government pay to feed these people if they are smoking weed and crack? I have to think that honest government aid recipients, who genuinely need the help, wouldn't take issue with this.

But then again, I guess I'm a closed minded, un-American racist... even though I'm Native American and complaining about the mostly white crowd of meth heads from the apartment complex across the park from me, that I see using their SNAP card while grocery shopping at the local Wal-Mart, jittering, fidgeting and chewing on their own ear the whole time...

People need to accept welfare for what it is: bribing the underclass to behave. That's all it is and all it will ever be. Someone has to be at the bottom of a ladder by virute of it's existence; your best bet is to elevate the entire ladder instead of attempting to eliminate rungs.

Tiguar the normies have found out about "neoliberal" so I'm thinking of rebranding to "liberal fusionism"

How does that sound, is "fusionism" too obscure to piggyback off

EDIT: Also you're right and upvoted

I told you a year ago that shite was going to happen.

Just unironically call yourself a globalist. That's essentially what neoliberalism boils down to and you can really activate some almonds on the poliboard

Government peanut butter is the bomb.

I wrote an economics paper in college on in-kind transfers versus food stamps. In-kind was the cheaper, more efficient way to provide nutritional assistance. But when you're buying votes, its more effective to do it with money than it is food.

This man is correct on all fronts. But especially the buying votes part.

Which is why it should be rather enlightening who is vocally against this idea.

Also notice that even most of our left leaning folks in here are not arguing if reform is needed, but what reform should look like and how to make the sending food directly idea work.

Well, except for BamaAtl who just trotted out her "CHILDRUNZ GUNNAH DIE!" shtick.
