I get that people hate social services and the poor on here but these programs mostly benefit children. You ought to see the smiles on my kids faces when I whip out the Louisiana purchase and tell them we're going out for boiled crawfish. They can barely load up on the escalade fast enough!

What will be the solution if this program is actually implemented and recipients just start selling the food they receive?
No system is fraud proof but I don't think the illicit bean market will be as lucrative as the current scams.

Of your recent work, I give this a 1.6 out of 10. You've had some really, really strong work, but this is way too obvious. You started off with a really legit hook but got greedy and pissed it away with the second half of the post.

They should contract with a delivery service like Amazon.com
Which has a contract with USPS as does eBay.

I'm interested in substantive cuts to substantive programs. Not speculative bullshite that might or might not actually save money on a program whose percentage of GDP would be about a single pixel on that graph. This is a high-visibility, low-impact bullet point in a DOA budget proposal designed to elicit a favorable reaction from people who forward "muh EBT lobster" chain e-mails. In that sense the job has already been done. Congratulations to the Trump Administration for winning again!
what a cop out. There is no other way to reign in entitlements, but incrementally - one small political victory after the other. When you are 20 years from insolvency, any cut is a good cut, no matter how small.
Besides, sweeping reform is a political non starter. It would be immediately labeled racist by the same politicians you pull the lever for every cycle, so spare me this "I want substantive cuts" malarkey.
ETA. too harsh

He's made that same joke in every EBT thread for the last few years. It was funny the first ten times but come on, man.

Someone is going to trip over their dick on it, though. It is only a matter of time.

Absofrickinglutely... If you want to make living off of the government a lifestyle than you eat the food they give you whether you like it or not.

Guess Americans can starve so you can live out your ignorant Randian fantasies, eh?
right, so give more money to the family so fricking irresponsible they have no stable home, and expect them to be responsible with the money. Great plan, idiot.

That is quality trolling Amigo.

I bet the results here are similar.
Years ago, I thought I would be kind and hand out twenty $10 Visa gift cards to homeless people in mid/downtown Houston. I stopped my car, walked over to a small group of people and offered them one card each. They actually got pissed and one guy said, "WTF am I supposed to do with this?". I told him that you could buy food anywhere with it. He told me that I needed to come back with cash. I told them best of luck but I was not coming back. In my head, I was thinking "Beggars can't be choosers, a-hole".

Sounds like an opportunity for an entrepreneur tell me. If someone knows how to cook well they can get the people with the commodities to bring them the commodities and they can prepare the food in a good way for a fee

In response to your quoted remark, more importantly, maybe we should make people figure out what to do with unprepared food when they get it. Isn't that a desirable social outcome? We've neutered people to the point that they can't figure out what to do with rice and beans. That may be the biggest indictment of the system I've ever heard.

He's getting repetitive, This is at least the third time I've seen this one.

Taking advantage of the existing logistics chains of local grocery stores is always going to be cheaper than the federal government actually trying to create and operate a meal-delivery service from scratch.
True, but I'm willing to bet it could cut down on fraud on the part of the grocery stores as well as the amount wasted on junk food.

You mean they haven't provided the numbers on an idea in its infancy floated today? You don't say. Intuitively, if the basket of goods was spartan in nature and relatively healthy, I think the amount using the program would drop massively.

I'm fairly certain that "pre-prepared meals" like a rotisserie chicken from Rouse's, or a box of food from the hot line. . . is not able to be purchased with EBT
So this isn't a problem
