He attended but did not get a degree. I should have said he did not graduate initial and that is what I meant by no education.

true. and if this kid is attempting suicide (which is incomprehensible as a parent) then you can add quitter to his list of attributes.

If you care to share that info with us, and it's OK if you don't, may I ask: Which denomination of Christianity do you recommend? Can you tell us why?
I know this wasn't directed to me but there are a lot of denominations to choose from. So no need to recommend a particular one. The son in the OP can find his own path to Jesus.

Can you tell us what this means? Sometimes moving to a liberal state will make you rich, depending on what you do and the city you are in.

There is anxiety/ depression in this generation like never before. Social media and an ideologically- possessed culture has made them narcissistic , alienated and resentful.
Never being told "No!" or getting their arse whipped is what has made them this way.

If you have to make them go realize that you already started slipping. My parents never had to sit me down and tell me to not be a dumb, weak, little pussy.

My husband is a teacher and they still have helicopter parents but the new term out there is "bulldozer" parents. So basically the parents never let their kids struggle or have to deal with anything. What you have are a bunch of college graduates who cannot function in the real world who have no idea how to problem solve, balance a budget, and zero conflict resolution skills. Tack on the very materialistic and instant gratification society we live in and this is a recipe for disaster.

We'd frankly be better off if we pushed more of our own kids in this direction. I've never met a plumber or stonemason or welder that tore down a statue. And they'll end up making more money than a lot of people with four year degrees in *insert bullshite major here* that spend their lives in cubicles filing TPS reports.

This. Conservatives will be pleasantly surprised at how capitalistic the current HS/college crop is. They may not be as socially conservative, but they are completely opposite of the Marxists of the past 10-15 years.
The erosion and degradation of societal morals and standards is what has lead us to this moment.....you can think about that.

Sorry to break it to y’all, but raising a son with balls and a backbone starts young. You can’t wait until college years.
A lot of recent science shows that personality is about 40-60% heritable and the rest is learned/instilled. If you have a kid that is naturally predisposed to be timid/weak/lazy, it is incumbent upon you as a parent to do everything you can to mitigate that natural predilection for destructive behaviors. Personally, I believe that those traits can be identified fairly early in life. College age is far too late; any profound change at older ages is going to have to come from within.
The worst cases are kids who are born with awfully destructive personalities that cannot be tamed despite great parenting. It's rare, but it happens. It's one of my worst nightmares.

Yep. Weve become a society that believes anything that makes us uncomfortable is a great evil and must be purged from existence because many were taught that any discomfort was not to be tolerated.
Stress is healthy, too much stress is unhealthy. We live in a country where people want to remove all stress period.

quote:Personally, I subscribe to the Reformed tradition of Protestant Christianity (PCA, OPC, CRC, RPCNA, ARBCA, among many others) as I believe it is most faithful to the scriptures, but what is most important is salvation in Christ by faith, so any church or denomination that preaches the message of Christ's atoning work for sinners by faith is what all need, first and foremost.
If you care to share that info with us, and it's OK if you don't, may I ask: Which denomination of Christianity do you recommend? Can you tell us why?
I'd recommend starting with a confessional denomination/church that adheres to a confession of faith like Westminster or the London Baptist. Confessional churches tend to be more theologically conservative and less likely to change their theology in light of social unrest or public opinion.

If he becomes good at his trade and gets licensed, he'll make enough money to test out whether he's really changed or not. Money doesn't change people, it merely unmasks them.

Take his butt down to the local Government Office that handles Job Corps registrations. Let the government house, feed, educate and place him on graduation.
It's time he moves out from behind Mommy's skirt.
