The politics we are currently seeing in America hasn't been going on for centuries.

Crushed by student loan debt. You must get on the gov't teat to afford anything with 100k in crippling debt for a history degree.

All these kids taking on astronomical student loan debt...especially those with bullshite degrees in the humanities and liberal arts and the like...I'm not surprised they lean socialist. They'll be paying a mortgage without owning a home until they are in their 40's. College is so fricked up.

I've heard this stuff for years, yet the more conservative candidate continues to win frequently. The Dems have lost so many hundreds of seats since 2008. They made some back in the last midterms but the presidential looks to head back right.

If capitalism existed in America, I would support it. But the system we have now is seriously flawed and while I don’t think socialism is the answer, some major changes need to take place in our political/economic landscape. I empathize with those who feel screwed by the system.

Honest question.....what in the frick happened that caused this huge age divide?

They've been misled. They've been told they can't succeed and our country sucks. They don't really understand what socialism is. They've been coddled by their parents and are scared of the real world. They don't understand how the real world works. They don't understand the difference between academia and real world. The media and pop culture has further cemented progressive ideas in their mind. Their parents have failed them.

But how is high student loan debt the fault of capitalism?

It is government backing the loan and government owning the state schools

It's the fault of socialistic policies pumping "free money" into colleges falsely elevating the "value" of an education. If the gov't had stayed the frick out. A college education would be priced by the value it could get you in the job market. Same with healthcare. And anything else the gov't pumps tax dollars into.

Not saying it is. But i do believe that lots of young people are being fooled by "going to college" rather than learning a skill that might be better for them financially. They want someone to bail them out like the banks and insurance companies got back in the "08 recession.

Many kids have no business going to college. It's crazy expensive and they'd be better off learning a skill. We're in dire need of skilled tradespeople and you can make a damn good living with zero student loan debt.

You're looking at wrong end of it. The real problem is white birthrates in the US. People naturally become more conservative when they have have more to protect. That said, it wont matter if you have less people voting.

At the current birthrate, whites will become a minority (albeit still with economic majority) in 2050. The Republicans tactic as of now is to appeal primarily to whites and maintain the largest share of them (this isnt a racist accusation, its political reality even with the best of intentions).

I always wonder who they poll for this shite. I’m young, work on a college campus, and rarely see any students I can 100% label as left. The few that are obvious write very dumb op-Ed’s in the student paper, which are usually lame paraphrases of a Young Turks piece the week before. The only place I see or read about these sjw psuedo socialists is the Internet. These jackasses are the ones that can’t make it anywhere else in the real world so they end up being academia hacks that continue the brainwashing.

18-24 yr olds aren’t a good group to poll. They may have moved out of their parents’ house but haven’t grown up. They’re coming out of the rebellious years and want to be different. Every generation of parenting seems to screw their kids up more and more. 100 years ago a 24 year old would have the life experience of a present day great 65 year old.

1 semester at college & they become an expert on political science. They don’t understand they’d be the absolute weakest link if a true socialist regime rose to power. The first sent to the fields to be worked to death since they’d be the biggest threat to organize and attempt to overthrow as soon as they realized they were once again “decieved”. Theyd be exploited to fuel the technology propaganda machine before being shot in the head and thrown in a mass grave. They’re sheep.

This was true of prior generations, but this upcoming generation is not trending that way. Fewer are getting married, and having children, few have any interest in owning a house, careers are less important than doing what's right for the environment, and so on. It is not surprising that AOC is the de-facto political leader of this group, they see her ideas as a necessity for the collective good, and survival of the earth. I wish I was being sarcastic.

Retiring to some isolated corner of Alaska sounds better by the day. Even if the whole country went socialist you'd be able to count on weather, wolves, and bears to keep the underclass population down.

If they actually had the guts to try to balance the budget I think it would take care of itself. The tax level to support our current social system should make them wake up, assuming of course that the tax burden is distributed fairly.

People drift more conservative over time. 50 years ago we were coming out of the 70s and those same 65-and-olders in your survey were probably a much different percentage.

Substitute liberal for socialist and the poll would have been almost the same 25 years ago. Today's socialist is yesterday's liberal. There was a correct saying when I was young lo those many, many years ago. If you are not a liberal when you are 20 you have no heart. If you are not a conservative when 35 you have no brain.
