FIFY.
There are wealthier people in the world that we do not officially know about because they do not play in the western financial sandbox or if they do they are off the books.

Pretty surprised Ballmer came in ahead of Gates.

I can’t even comprehend trying to manage such levels of wealth

The same could probably be said about the people listed above. This is just their known wealth. But your point stands and is a good one.

The Saudi royal family comes to mind.

quote:The wealthiest person in the world - by far - is the Emir of Qatar. The native population of Qatar is like only 300k - and those receive generous annual stipends, although it's just a drop in the overall bucket.

All the rest accumulates to the Emir. Most relevantly, this includes whatever the present value is of all the natural gas under the sand - by most estimates probably the 3rd largest store in the world. Gas is lower than it was several years ago, but even at current prices, you'd have to say it's worth at least a trillion or two.

Ballmer, that coat-tail-hanging bastard.

I am all about people making as much money as they can, but this increasing inequality between haves and have nots feels like it will be detrimental in the long run from an economics standpoint. We’ve definitely seen this pattern many times throughout history and it never ends well.

These lists generally do not include sovereign wealth, which is hard to calculate. How do you count a ruler that owns an entire country?

I bet those 10 aren’t on the real top 10 wealthiest people list

If we are talking about families, even the British Royal family is richer than Elon. It's totally hidden but they have massive wealth.

Only a few people on that list have directly received money from me in the past 5 years.
Musk $16
I tried out Grok (X) but after two months I unsubscribed since it didn't meet my needs.
Page & Brin $450
My Pixel 4a was no longer getting updates. De-googled the new phone right away.
While some of these guys have done notable things lets not judge everyone solely on their wealth. For example the SQLite database is probably used multiple times more than Ellison's database. The guy gives it away instead of charging companies boatloads of money. Probably a lot of examples in the open-source computing world.

The top four have been hanging out and partying with Trump this week.

Govt regulations preventing barriers to entry and continual deficit spending lead to this.
All that additional money Daddy Govt gives us parks as wealth, and barriers to entry keep that circle small.
If you want to fix "inequality" youre going to have to destroy the current DC money printer.
