Being objective, Im sure the ambush and birdshot were a factor. If you do sustain a fragment to your vest I would hope that your instincts help u focus in (cause your pissed) and fight or flight adrenaline kicks in. Your target is maybe 12ft away, then 8ft away then 4ft away.... you really should be able to hit SOME portion of the 6 foot moving target.

You try shooting a moving target after getting blasted with buckshot in your chest. I bet you it isn't as easy as you think.

So why is he the only one firing?

Show me the bullet holes of his misses. Why say he was shooting as he was falling when you release a video of him NOT falling.

Nobody said it is easy. SS should be able to make shots that aren't easy.

As we get older, it’s easy to forget how fast and agile young men can be. I’ve seen old men confidently say a six foot chain link fence would keep people out on its own.

It’s also important to note that this was the first checkpoint and the shooter didn’t ever get close to the stage.

Another poster mentioned in another thread about having a serpentine route to get through the checkpoints.

The SS guy in the original video show was totally clueless. He was hanging out leaned up against the barricade abd then moves backwards and sideways for many steps whe trying to get his gun out. That guy shouldn't be a police officer in Mayberry much less a SS agent.

The entire group is pathetic and was seen in Butler. The way they secured the place and then the reaction after the shot was fired. The fat chick that used Trump as a shield is still freaking active.

I know this was SS and not LEO but watch some UTube videos.

I've seen a cop empty his pistol at close range at a perps back and hit nothing.

I saw a group of LEOs discharge 30 rounds at a running perp and they all hit the ground halfway between them and him.

I train weekly in tactical situations, I'd like to think I would have done better, but it's hard to replicate being hit in the chest before hand.

Yeah, I was happy to defend these guys based on what we were initially being told.

But this story is breaking down differently than was first presented. As footage was first released, the uniformed SSO was not in the pic. We were led to believe the SS man in a suit was hit by a shotgun round as the perp blew by him.

Now we've seen that Allen was walking around casing the Hilton convention room location the night before the WHCD. No security whatsoever. That kind of access the day before an event is absurd.

We've seen that there was a K9 SSO with a dog alerted to the armed perp. The SSO ignored the K9 warning, let Allen step away, grab his rifle, and charge the entry point. That was ridiculous.

We've seen the SS taking down entry point metal detectors at least two hours before the WHCD was slated to conclude. That is nuts.

We've seen an apparently unfettered, uniformed SSO fire at least three missed shots at point blank range, the last of which may be the one that hit his fellow SS officer in the vest. Again, WTF.

None of that corresponds to what the SS was initially telling us. Not close.

but there's no reason to believe the USSS is a high functioning organization right now.

It hasn't been for a long time. Remember when Obama was President and a guy got over the fence at the White House, across the lawn, through the front door, and to the base of the steps leading up to the living quarters before he was stopped? According to the report, dogs weren't released for fear that the dog would go after an agent.

"The Washington Post reported that "crash boxes," alarms placed throughout the White House as a first alert system, were muted at the request of the usher's office because of noise complaints. A spokesperson for the office stated that they suspected the alarms were not working properly and going off when they weren't supposed to. Additionally, when the outside could not get to Gonzalez, a guard dog was supposed to be released in an attempt to stop the intruder, but the dog was not released."

About a week earlier, when Obama was at the CDC in Atlanta, a security guard was allowed to get on an elevator with Obama and started acting unprofessionally, taking photos, etc. The Secret Service didn't learn until later that the guy also had a gun. The Secret Service director..again, a woman...was forced to resign after these two incidents. A woman had been appointed after the scandal over the hookers in Colombia.

The agency probably hasn't been high functioning since Frank Horrigan took that bullet for the President.

Perhaps. Then again, if I'm reading this right, he'd been hit in the vest by a shotgun blast. So, perhaps he deserves a little slack?

Which is why perhaps he shouldn't have fired at all. He oculd have killed another agent or a guest.

That doesn't excuse the other agents for not firing, and perhaps the most culpable is the dog handler. He made no effort to check out what alerted the dog.

The dog was the only agent on the scene who gets an A+ for his response.

The honest truth is Trump unprofessional and non serious existence seeps into any and everything around him… his SS detail is shite because he jokes around with them and probably has them looking into nobodies on the internet disagreeing or telling jokes about him…

You guys are nuts. The security plan worked. The attacker always gets to choose the time and place so the initial attack will always be somewhat successful which is why the SS uses multiple layers.

And the protection you guys all believe should be in place can’t happen in a free society. The government can not simply walk into the Washington Hilton and kick everyone out of their rooms and close the hotel for a week because you guys think it’s crazy that a US citizen can freely walk around a hotel that a politician will be at later. Now, in North Korea, Iran, Russia, Cuba you are darn right the government security apparatus will just take anything over. And then you’d whine about that if they emptied a football game you were attending,

I was in a foreign country hotel in a non democracy country for work and the entire hotel was taken over and all guests were relocated to another hotel all for a politician. Is that what you want here?

And what you guys don’t realize is the SS does not make the rules. I’m sure they would love to not have events at hotels but the politicians tell them what they are doing not the other way around. And the minute the SS does something the host hotel doesn’t like they call the staff and media and put the pressure to change it. You think SS wanted Clinton to jog around the mall and stop at McD’s all the time or that they wanted Obama to just pop out of the White House to walk the streets of DC? Or Trump doing outdoor rallies? The outdoor rallies have stopped because the staff finally agreed with the SS that maybe it isn’t the best idea. The SS has always not wanted outdoor events.

The guy was stopped at the checkpoint so the plan worked. That he was able to sprint 15 yards before being tackled is a non issue because the check point was not 15 yards from the POTUS and the surprise factor was taken into account in the security plan.

what I'm seeing in this video is a bunch of agents who were packing it in for the night. They aren't vigilant and ready. They are in pack it up and go home mode. Look at the officer taking down the magnetometer. Same thing occurs with the officer with the gun. Both he and the dog are aware there is a man in the room, but he shows no interest in investigating it... It is absolutely insane to think you have the line of succession on the premises, and you have agents with zero grasp of the level of vigilance that entails.

one other thing.. The amount of people who fall back in the video is disturbing. They are all there to protect the President, Vice President t and the Speak of the House. Running away from a threat that is making a charge in the direction of the President is shameful

The only people who fell back and didn’t advance to the shooter were the TSA people who were assisting the mag team. They aren’t there to protect the POTUS. They are there to run the mags. This has already been reported.

This whole incident and aftermath is suspicious to me. Where are the spent rounds? Where are the shotgun pellets? How did no one get hit with bullets and shotgun pellets flying around that room? And these Secret Service people seem to be off their game...big time. Heck, even the dog knew, but his handler didn't. Lots of questions and no answers yet.

Officer Snickers deserves a promotion to Sargent... Yes, Sargent Snickers

The rest of the people captured on video were totally unprepared. The regular lady LEO is the one who fired the shots that put almost everyone in danger and missed the perp by several feet when he was right up on her.

It's also important to keep in mind that this was the outermost perimeter and was actively being removed because everyone under protection was now in an enclosed space that could be closed off. We don't see the agents at the door that took down the gunman almost immediately without even shooting him - just straight up reacted instantly and tackled him. That is great work there.

So while we see some head scratching police work at the magnetometers being disassembled, there was still great police work we don't see and the guy still wasn't even able to reach the same floor as the protectees.
