re: The deafening silence of the USA returning to the moon

SpaceX has been doing AMAZING things just like this, like over and over again. I've watched many of these launches, including several crewed missions to the ISS. And they had people cheering, and there was incredible graphics and play by play, and footage of the boosters landing upright. And even being grabbed out of the fricking air by these huge robot arms.
Did you watch any of these?

Like we ever been to the moon before.

It would probably have gotten more press if Trump hadn’t decided to join Israel’s terror bombing of Iran during it.

I don't object to anyone else who is interested in space missions being interested, but I've never understood the fascination. Not in my whole life.
I don't get it and I never have.
To me it's the epitome of doing something just to do it. We're not going to live on the moon. We're not going to live on Mars. If there is anything valuable there, mining/extracting it and transporting any significant amount of it back to Earth would be practically impossible.
We know enough about conditions in space and on the moon and Mars at this point that any benefit of developing new technology to deal with such conditions are just as possible as hypotheticals as they are if we really try to go.
I'm not worried about the money we spend on it b/c it's a very small percentage of the budget, but it's pretty much a waste of money to me, albeit a small one.

Could care less. We spend way too much money on nonsense like NASA!!

2After 1969 the excitement started to die and by the last landing in 1972 nobody paid any attention to the landings anymore. I was a college kid at the time and much more concerned about the Vietnam War and the lack of support our country had for our soldiers. It was the beginning of what we are dealing with to this day.
IMO we are wasting time and money on space travel given all the issues we have on planet earth. Let's focus on our world before we go any further into outer space.

All I’ve seen is people complain about the fuel used while they pay $4 a gallon to get to work and slave to pay for inflated cost

IDK how much, but I suspect a lot of the technology we benefit from today can trace its roots back to space exploration. One example would be communication advances.
As a Christian and a believer in a sovereign Creator, I think it's great that we explore His creation.
As for focusing on our world at the expense of space exploration, I'm curious as to what would be different in our world, if we immediately ceased all space exploration?
For the most part, we've twiddled our thumbs for over a decade in space exploration and our world . . . really wasn't concerned.

I guessed I missed the part where we landed

Putting satellites in space is not exploring space. Why do we need to check out asteroids, moons, and planets? We know less about the depths of our own oceans than we do about space.
I say, follow the money. People are getting paid hugely for this "space exploration bs" while people starve or are over medicated.

People always say this and it's technically true, but any of those things could have been accomplished without actually going anywhere. Just work the problem like a hypothetical. That's what they had to do with 95% of the advances they made anyway...they didn't figure most of the solutions to problems out during or after the fact, they anticipated and figured them out beforehand.

Doesn't that depend on the motivation for doing so? I guarantee you that it is an idol for some people.

Probably nothing, and it's a fair point. The people solving space exploration problems are not the same people trying to solve other problems. That's one reason I don't object to the program. I don't see it as taking anything significant away from anything else.

I see that as supporting my point of view, not yours.

Not really.
This is the same nonsense as people claiming they have to "get a third job to pay the taxes that the Joos are costing them."
NASA is .4% of the national budget. For comparison, 'The Joos' are .07%.
So the next time one of the board KKK members starts their Joo nonsense, you can ask them if they support the space program and if they do, then tell them to STFU b/c NASA costs almost six times what the Joos cost.
But I digress.
The point is that it's not a lot of money relative to the federal budget.

Yes, because when I see the value of my dollar deflating at an insane rate, the fact my college aged son will now more than likely not be able to afford the American dream, still no one held accountable from the Epstein files, the makings of another never ending war, soulless corrupt politicians on both sides of the isle, the inevitable financial collapse of our financial system, I at least can sleep better at night knowing that we are pissing away even more money by returning to the moon. As if the 1st moon landing was actually real.

What a compelling rebuttal, I can clearly see where I was wrong with your well thought out reply.
Dissect what I said and disapprove it with facts.

quote:NASA is accelerating plans to build a permanent moon base at the lunar South Pole, with construction expected to begin in the late 2020s and continue into the 2030s, fueled by a $20 billion investment over seven years. The goal is to establish a sustained human presence on the moon in the next few years. SpaceX will be a big contributor to that.
We're not going to live on the moon.
