Would be awesome if that were true, but it’s not.
It won’t hurt the effort to do so. Will the people rise up and throw out their leaders (those that make it out of the hole they’ve been forced into)? Who the hell knows, but whatever remains after this is gonna have a lot less ability to spread terror, that’s pretty clear.

They are being escorted by fighters I’m sure.
Yeah probably. But they don’t fly them unless we already have air superiority.

I wonder if people realize that the B-52 can self-designate with sniper pod for laser-guided bombs and also drop jdams which are GPS guided munitions so therefore you're not going to see Arc light strikes like Vietnam in Iran.
I think most people think of old Vietnam era movies and carpet bombing.
I'm no military expert by a long shot, but I do read an article once in a while. Just doing this I realized almost all modern warfare has some "smarts" involved with their weapons. I'm guessing that an extra 20-30k dollar add on to a dumb bomb would increase killing and damage efficiency and probably result in less bombs being dropped to destroy targets. But no expert for sure.

AKA air supremacy

75000 vs 70,000 but the B-52 because of how the bomb bay is compartmented can carry more of some types of bombs.
These bombs being dropped are not necessarily dumb bombs. Smart bombs are also available and are cheaper now than other precision munitions.

If B-52s are flying in a combat air space, you can bet your arse that the US thinks it is highly unlikely Iran or their allies can touch them.
Plans for drawing down the B-52 fleet began in Desert Storm, 1991. The plan was to begin by just not replacing the ones lost over Iraq. Thing is, none were lost over Iraq.

I can believe it because I see them flying overhead frequently. They are a marvel and reportedly their design/utility hasn’t been able to be replaced this far. Maintenance staff does have to replace the duct tape holding them together fairly often - ha!

I saw B52s coming and going more than usual at Barksdale last week. Seems they knew something was up.

Professor must not know what a laser guided bomb is.

Air superiority will not change minds on the ground in Iran. t never has and won't now.
The British still eat canned food for breakfast generations after the bombings.

They were ahead of their time then and are a very intimidating sight to see.

Without cheating. I’ll guess 500 produced with less than 100 still in service.
From memory, it was about 750. As iconic as it has been for 70 years, I thought it would be more than that.
There are 76 in service now. Makes me wonder about the others and how the calculus goes regarding upkeep on that small a number.
Then again, my guess is that we probably don’t have thousands of any single plane platform anymore.
Also, I was surprised to realize that the F-16 is still in production (sort of) after almost 5,000 made in the last 47 years. (The F-16V is nominally the same platform with wholesale upgrades.)

The other 650 are getting chopped up to keep the last of them flying.
