New from me: Senior U.S. military officials in #Afghanistan say Special Operations retrieved 16 American citizens from outside the Kabul airport on Monday. In a video conference last week, President Biden said he wants to avoid a “Black Hawk Down” incident

I fricking KNEW the Biden admin were worried about a Mogadishu type event rather than actually doing what is needed to be done. Damn.

Even Schiff is turning.

quote:

Rep. Adam Schiff said that Kabul's airport could be a target of terrorist attacks from ISIS-Khorasan and Al Qaeda as U.S. and allied troops on the ground there attempt to evacuate thousands of people fleeing Afghanistan.

"I think the threat to the airport is very real, very substantial... this would make a very attractive target for ISIS-K," Schiff told Fox News after attending a classified Afghanistan briefing Monday.

quote:

The California Democrat worried that groups outside the gates could "cause chaos that might prolong the U.S. stay in a way that ISIS-K believes might suit their interest."

"It's a very real risk, I think, to our aircraft, to our personnel, to people who have congregated around the airport," Schiff said. "Whenever you have a mass gathering like that, it is an opportunity for improvised and other explosive devices."

quote:

House Intel Committee Chair Schiff and Intel Committee Member Jason Crow both just said intelligence had been warning of a quick collapse in Afghanistan for months“Over the course of the last six months. And there were any number of warnings that the Taliban might take over, and some that included a potential of a very rapid, the Afghan government enforces."

Yes, all it takes is a single mortar not to directly kill anyone but just near the start of the runway. I don’t think the Taliban want that since they want us out of there and to use the airport after we leave, but if ISIS is able to launch a mortar to destroy part of the runway, then sheer animal panic will be unleashed.

From there ISIS doesn’t have to put out another shot to cause mass conflict between America and the Taliban. ISIS is both of our enemies and they want us to kill as many of the other as possible. If that happens, things get really, really crazy when 6,000+ of our military no longer thinks they have a way out at least until they shoot their way out of Kabul and to Bagram Airfield, and that’d take much more than a single mortar to prevent people from leaving there.

A much better ATC setup than Bagram... What could possibly go wrong?

My guess is Taliban/ISIS will hit Kabul Airport on night between 2-10 September, unless they want to be symbolic and go 9/11. (Not including swatting people at front gate, but something more serious). Your guess?

Kabul Becoming More Dicey — FIGHT!

Various offline sources telling me they having more difficult time getting people out. Sort of a lost at sea situation with limited assets, a government that is more a part of the problem than are the Taliban, and a huge Cat 5 hurricane barreling in.

Do not give up hope. I know that there are efforts underway as I write this. More people will be rescued.

But in the end, Taliban checkmated the Pentagon and Biden — meaning, in my view, there is no way this ends nicely. If we reinforce, the war likely will flare up. If we don’t reinforce, we have no chance of getting a lot of the people out. They simply will be Left Behind.

Personally, I would go in guns blazing and remind Taliban how much power we still have. And I would match coercion with coercion. B-52s. Fuel Air Bombs. The works. I would say leave us alone until we get our people out or we will start arc-lighting your safe havens and you can sort that out at the war trials.

Leave us alone or you will do an Operation Steady Rain of cruise missiles and everything else that makes it hard to sleep at night.

We simply cannot do this nicely. We either leave Americans behind, or we fight. I chose fight.

I post Yon's stuff because he's one of the world's best war correspondents and he's spent a lot of time in Afghanistan and has been in the mix during some of the toughest fighting. His opinions are harsh, but are generally spot on ... regarding many things.

I can’t say but the why was only on Ft. Campbell. It wasn’t all of them, only a select few.

I will say the why was worth the time investment and somethings have to be handled personally.

Those aren’t the only flts in and out of Kabul. The military a/c still have an option of flying without being picked up by the ADS-B type recovers.

The fact of the matter is you only have to ask this question: would you rather the United States run shite with their ideology or China run shite with theirs? If the former: you’re with us.

Look around, China is already running shite with their ideology.

quote:

Germany very much has Western ideals. Go talk with one sometime and so long as they’re not a crazy commie from the Frankfurt School, they’re pretty similar to us save for a darker sense of humor. You strike me as someone who has never heard of Germany if you think they’d join the CCP over us. Absolute nonsense what you’re saying.

I bet a lot of people wouldn’t have thought we’d be so passive to China over COVID and the coming pacifism over Taiwan, but here we are where the only person in govt actually tough on China was removed from the presidency because of Chinese influence. To install a President China has compromised.

Germany fell into a similar trap that we did making China their most important trading partner in both directions. When Europe goes to shite, Germany will have its own very significant access to Russian energy and China as its #1 trading partner in both directions. They have greatly decreased their reliance on the European block while at the same time controlling it.

History repeats itself and German aggression in Europe will return and that will not align them with the US.
