Which class are these folks sitting in for their flight?
Didn't know any passenger airlines still used the A340.

Has the pic with at least two people falling from a plane after it was airborne been posted yet? Or the video of people running along and holding onto a taxiing plane?
Yeah it's pretty disturbing.

Prior to the final withdrawal, there were only 2,500 American troops securing the entire country. Now, 7,000 are required just to provide the security to support a Non-combatant Evacuation Operation in Kabul.

POTUS and his media friends will try to conflate anger about our botched withdrawal with anger towards us being there to begin with.

Nice to see the evacuation is going smoothly and on schedule!

Report from Afghani news outler, TOLO, about deaths at the airport. Not sure how factual, but it isn't good either way that they printed it.

At Least 10 People Killed in Chaos at Kabul Airport
quote:
At least 10 people were killed in the chaos at Kabul airport after crowds of thousands flocked to the area on Sunday afternoon and into Monday with the hope of leaving the country.
People entered the airport from all sides despite the presence of US forces as well as troops from other nations attempting to secure the evacuations of their respective citizens and Afghan local staff.
Shots were fired and a stampede ensued, both of which caused fatalities. AFP, quoting the US Pentagon, reported that US forces killed two armed people. Two other people were killed after they fell from a US military airplane in flight after takeoff. The people had apparently grabbed onto the aircraft from the outside.

Chaos at Kabul’s airport delays the arrival of thousands of U.S. Marines in Afghanistan.
"Flights of U.S. military planes bringing thousands of Marine and Army reinforcements to Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul were delayed for a few hours on Monday because of crowds of civilians on the runway, a military official said.
The official said the flights had eventually resumed when the runways were cleared.
About 3,000 U.S. Marines and soldiers were expected to be on the ground at the airport by Monday morning, with another 3,000 troops en route, Pentagon officials said."
Update the NY Times reran this story but this is from yesterday.

I'm very interested in seeing how the press treats the WH and the Pentagon after being silent on this for the past 72 hours.

i’m now curious at to what the updated goal now is. Are we going to try and evac the estimated 10k allies and US citizens? Surely not all of them are at this one airport. So will we be able to extract those who are behind Taliban check points? Or try? And what is the timeline of who we are trying to extract? I can’t imagine the logistics of that mission are going to be straight forward.

I have terrible news to report in my latest update. The US Marines who are supposed to provide ground support at the Kabul Airport are unable to land due to the current chaos at the airport. It is currently unknown when they will arrive to help provide support for the troops on the ground but this is really bad news.
There are refueling tankers from USAF and RAF. They are probably going to double back to that point, then try again.
